Cool comment. So technical of you. You know what I am saying. I am sure both are on the same page with Fitz.
Rather than have the Football Pool next season, we should just guess how many pages this thread will run to before Fitz signs.
we agree , except that i think the offer should have already been pulled. they have plenty of time to wait and see whom they can bring in as a veteran backup. maybe the rams release foles and you can sign him one year at the minimum.

And of course the 70 million to Mevi$ Todd Bowles wanted it and is getting mixed results Total: 135 million to less than stellar performers imo Money well spent? Questionable Fitz commands respect in the locker and chemistry with players. Broke franchise record too. To me that's something you compensate readily I want Mac to be considered a GM who made some great decisions not b/c of some BAD mistakes The FO is just penny wise and pound foolish in the RF negotiations jmho
I thought that Idzik signed Giacomini? And regarding the Fitz contract - I don't care what records Fitz broke. One of the biggest sins a GM can commit is to pay a player based on what they've done. A GM's responsibility is to pay a player based on how you expect them to perform! Sure Fitz is a good leader and locker room presence... But those intangibles without the physical abilities of a franchise QB makes him nothing more than a journeyman bridge QB. Mac is 100% correct to not fall for the fool's gold and stand firm on what is a generous contract for a journeyman bridge QB. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I just disagree....Give us a QB like Rivers, Brees, Ryan, Eli...hell even a good young QB like Carr or Bortles and we're among the favorites to win it all Those teams with their star QBs are not even making the playoffs The Jets have a great team that is much better than most of the league if you take away the QBs
One of the biggest sins a GM can commit is to pay a player based on what they've done. A GM's responsibility is to pay a player based on how you expect them to perform! Er... well yes... I think But you base how you expect them to perform on what they have done (free agents for example) or their potential and level of college play (rookies) Not sure what your point is there In Fitzs case he had his best season with the Jets. He also had good seasons with Gailey in Buffalo If you want to make a case about $ please reread my post. We way overpaid for Skrine and Gilchrist and Mr Elite Revis, who turned in a good year but nothing close to his salary and a GOAT rep he carries. The other 2 also were decent at best, but hardly worth the $ Cro wasn't worth it either in my opinion Get It?? FTR the money Fitz now wants is nothing RELATIVELY speaking to what we pay other top players and QB is the most important position I guess its a bargain if one of those three can play QB or has 25 pick sixes lol
I thought I made my point pretty clear: going forward Fitz is nothing more than a journeyman bridge QB. I don't expect (and I assume Mac agrees) Fitz to repeat his performance. The reported contract offer is very generous for a journeyman QB. As for other players on the team and their contracts: you are implying that the contracts we signed these players to was a mistake. We'll if that's the case then it's not a good argument for giving Fitz a bad contract too. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I wonder how much worse Nick Foles or Josh McCown would be than Fitzpatrick? They both have to be options and cheaper.
I think that is the major divide between those who are calling for Mac to pony up a contract to get Fitz in here and those of us who recognize that he is fool's gold. Sure I agree that Fitz is the best option for us right now. But next year and beyond - on the contract that he's demanding - no effing way. There are plenty of QB options for MUCH cheaper who won't be that much of a drop-off. Fitz puts us AT BEST 9-7. That ain't good enough for the playoffs so who really cares if we are 6-10 but set up better to win next year and the following. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Our opening schedule is so brutal that it doesn't matter who is at QB. After we start 2-4 (at best) the media narrative is going to be the Jets should have signed Fitz or the Jets shouldn't have signed Fitz depending on what we do Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Ugh, I'm watching RedZone Replay on the NFL network and they're showing the comeback vs the Giants. It's a lot easier to just say move on when there are no games being played.
My post was about giving a Contract to someone deserving imo Fitz who gives us the best chance of winning, serves as a bridge QB. and is deserving to have it (I guess this is where we disagree) vs extremely generous contracts given to some undeserving players. RFs original contract offer was a low ball 7 or 8 mil----hardly a "very generous offer", more a slap in the face, and was bumped up to the present 12 mil etc. We pay tons of money to my aforementioned defense players without blinking an eye for them "to repeat their performances year after year" Do two wrongs make a right ? Do I think Fitz should get 18 million per like SBradford ? well of course not. If you want to discuss whether 53 other contracts are "generous", "good" or "bad" Well be my guest The point you don't get and Ive try to explain is the money being asked for Fitz sec and third year of his deal is nothing compared to 117 million laid out for players like Skrine Revis and Gilchrist. You prob own one of those jerseys or something I dunno, haha Its how the money is spent within this organization and its priorities which is confounding and often not smart
The situation now and the situation back then are night and day. In 2009, Revis was young and had one of the best seasons ever for a corner back and many had him pegged as the best in the league / future HOFer. He cashed in when he was hot. Now he's on the decline and isn't getting any younger. Besides, what leverage does he really have to holdout? Who is going to pay a 32 year old declining CB more than 15m a year? Revis already cashed in, and he's already got his ring. He's playing with house money. It doesn't make sense for him to holdout at this point over a few million. I could see it in 2018 if he continues to play at a pro bowl level. As far as Fitz goes, I won't lose any sleep at all over him not resigning. We should spend that money to pay Mo IMO.
the difference is, skrine, revis and gichrist all had other teams that were going to give them most of if not all of the same money the jets gave them. right now you are asking the jets to bid against themselves.
