This was a homegrown terrorist that committed mass murder yet that fact is ignored by almost everyone. Dylan Roof was a homegrown terrorist. Robert Dear was one too. Both Roof and Dear happened to be Christian and this guy happened to be Muslim.
As long as we don't ignore the American homegrown terrorists too. Like it or not, homegrown terrorists come in more flavors than Islamic. We will have to deal with that at some point so we might as well start now.

No, Muslim terrorist commit acts of terrorism in the name of Islam, that is why they are Muslim terrorist. If he was Christian, called 9-11 and advised he was killing the homosexuals for Christ, he would be a Christian terrorist. But if it isn't relevant to the motive for the act of terrorism it is irrelevant to the description of him as a terrorist. Again, if a terrorist happens to be a vegetarian would you call him a vegetarian terrorist? A dog lover be a dog lover terrorist? Of course not.
