First preseason game would be my absolute deadline. If he doesn't play in that game, I'd pull the offer and cut off any negotiations (unless he wants $5 mil to be a backup). 3 weeks and 2 preseason games to get ready for the season? Yeah, no. But my deadline means nothing.
i think the deadline for deadlines being imposed has to be july 4th. after than no one can declare what they think the deadline should be. of course that will be a soft deadline as things may change forcing us to re evaluate our self imposed deadlines. so for now, try to declare your deadline before the july 4th soft deadline.
++++++++++++++++++ Mac came highly recommended by some good former GMs and he is like able. There is a case to be made for some mismanagement however starting with a ridiculous low ball offer to RF Pumped millions in the CBs while neglecting A long term deal with Mo before the market went crazy Mac has been our best GM and put together some solid moves eg getting BMarshall but all teams made mistakes and have some bad contracts . The Jets are no exception
so what's the vegas odds on Fitz signing a 1-year $12M contract ($3M guaranteed) with the New England Patriots
I think Bowles might begin to get a little pissed off if MacCagnan starts making decisions on who the starters are.
you throw a top qb on 50% of the league and they become one of the favorites, so that isnt saying much. as far as skrine goes, a nickel corner simply isnt worth that much. is it important to have a good nickel corner? sure, but that doesnt mean you pay them like a starting corner.
You're more generous than I. I think he should sign by the first of July. If not, the offer should be pulled. If he's not gonna sign, the Jets probably need to bring in another veteran to backup Geno. They should give that veteran as much time as possible to learn the offense prior to the start of TC.
I still think Wilks is the best player overall on D and he should be paid, but I very highly doubt Revis holds out again, especially while on the decline. Holding out after a front loaded contract isn't a smart thing to do because front loading the contract is exactly why he's paid well. It seems many people are too quick to look at contracts based on a single year's earnings instead of the whole thing. Just because Revis's money goes down one year doesn't mean he's suddenly underpaid. He made 16m the first year, 17m last season, and is due 13m next year when he turns 32 before the season. Is a 32 year old declining CB really underpaid at 15m a year (average of those 3 years)? To me, that's pretty fair, considering his ability. I could see him MAYBE holding out in 2018 when his salary goes down to 10m or renegotiating a new deal then, but it just doesn't seem logical next year. Would the Jets really give him another 16-17m a year contract after that? I doubt it. If he holds out next year, he's as good as gone.
You just know the Jets will lowball Fitz and he'll go to New England and light it up with the Pats. Happens to all our players.
And yet this is exactly what Revis did, twice - bitch through the media how he is underpaid. This was the reason ehy Woody was pissed off at him. There is a good chance he will do it again next year.
I could be wrong of course, but I don't think he will. He's nearing the end. I think he wants to retire a Jet. If he holds out, the Jets could just release him and move on. If he does hold out, I hope they kick his ass to the curb and force him when he's inducted into the HOF to wear a Bucs uni.
I don't think he will actually hold out, but I'm very positive he will start bitching rather loudly. Mehta will have much easier time being bear writer next year. Assuming he'll survive this long (he will. Roddents always survive).
