I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up Brandon Phillips. Bat him second at 2nd base. Walker to 3rd. Phillips is a gamer. Don't expect us picking up Reyes, but if Sandy deemed it a good investment I'd be on board. I like gamers, not these wishy washy types like Plawecki and Loney Time for us to look at all options for a legit 3rd baseman for the future. Sandy said as much the other day. I don't believe it's Wilmer, but I hope he makes me eat crow and steps up into a legit MLB 3rd sacker. Problem with Wright is he may not want to move on yet. Which is okay if the team is better all around, and he can take a lesser role at the bottom of the lineup, and maybe a RH hitting platoon guy at 1b and 3b. I hope he moves on graciously like Cuddy and relieves the team of his prohibitive contract
When it rains it pours. Cant remember the last time a Mets team has went through this many injuries in such a short period of time.
Colon...bad to the bone Maybe the time off gave Conforto a chance to regroup. A great game can't hurt either moving forward
I know I am repeating myself, but holy shit, how did no one see this coming? We are trying to fill a hole where we KNEW there would be one. There was no chance David Wright was going to play the whole year. They were even grooming him to take off every 5 games or something like that. This franchise is so cheap that they chose to ignore it and hope against hope.
There was talk on the radio before about the possibility of the Mets going after the Cuban 3B Yulieski Gourriel. Would make a ton of sense if the Coupons open up their purses. Wouldn't cost us any prospects and he could be an immediate addition to the lineup. IDK how much he'll cost (he's already "32" years old) but has a connection to Cespedes and supposedly wants to go to an immediate winner , so wouldnt make sense for him to sign with the Yanks.
It cries out for them to pitch in here. Give Sandy the room to maneuver to build on what we have. Whether it's Gourriel, or taking on a contract to secure the lineup for the immediate future, and into next year. Gourriel seems like a nice option and could add some spark. If Sandy had the leeway I'd trust that he would make a solid move whatever it was tho.
Definitely. What he does with limited means $$ wise , is impressive. I dont expect the team to do anything yet but getting this guy in here and pushing pushing Flores back to bench makes the most sense longterm. And keeps the minors intact instead of giving up a prospect for someone like Todd Frazier. 3B is not only a need right now, its a glaring need for the next few seasons because honestly I cant see Wright playing another major league game. If it takes 4 years and 40 mil to go and get this guy , it should be a move that needs to be made.
One solid guy to put into the middle of the lineup would go a long way. Whether it's a 3rd basemen or an outfielder. A legit guy to support Ces, and stretch out the rest of the lineup. The other injuries are more meaningful to me than Wright. They were more important players at this point. It's ALL the injuries that are hurting us. One guy down and it isn't an issue. But we took hits everywhere. However, we don't know what Sandy's thinking. Especially regarding Herrera and Nimmo, and Wilmer. Wilmer was looking pretty good recently. He was getting a good look at him at 3rd, and of course Wilmer gets hit on the hand. One thing after another
Yulieski Gourriel makes a lot of sense but even if the Wilpon open the Wallet would Sandy want to give a lot of $ to a 32 yr old with no MLB experience?
Prolly not is my guess. Wright was addressed by the SNY blogger, and I think he's is right that the combination of Kelly and Wilmer at 3rd is what Sandy will do for the time being. That's not bad. I actually think it might be better than Wright there at this point. And it buys Sandy some time to address the whole roster, bide his time, and pick his spot to grab a guy. But 3rd base is the obvious spot to commit to for more than just the present for a legit major league hitter, to protect Ces in the middle of the order, and stretch the lineup out.
