The Orlando Police Chief must have thought he had a terrible night Friday when some whacko shot and killed the girl from "The Voice" and then early Sunday morning the gates of hell broke open. Now, just down the road at Disney an alligator comes out and drags a two year old kid from Nebraska away while his family watches an outdoor movie.

The same Orange County Sheriff is now giving a press conference, a gray haired guy with four stars who probably wishes he retired a while ago.

At this point it would be a miracle if they find the kid alive. Sad stuff. But supposedly there were no swimming signs near the water.

Most areas in North Florida are heavily populated with alligators. I dont know when people stopped looking into areas where they are vacationing and taking the proper precautions with areas you arent familiar with. Especially if you have small kids.

Some events arent preventable. This sounds like it could've been.

This is a small beach area right outside the Grand Floridian Resort next to a swimming or wading pool. It has beach chairs and sidewalks and outdoor movies are held very close by. From Google maps it appears this Seven Seas Lagoon is about a half mile square with an irregular shoreline and is where the major original hotels and monorail are that bring you right to the main entrance to the Magic Kingdom. Apparently Disney operates waterskiing in the lake which is connected to a larger lake by an aqueduct that crosses over a roadway. The Disney organization doesn't usually rely on chance to control anything, this will not be good for business.

This incident may cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues and some terrible publicity as the lake is searched for the kid's body and/or the gator involved. There is no way this operation can be hidden from the park's visitors. I would expect a very large, very fast settlement to be made and sealed with the family.

On the legal side of it , it may not matter how quickly a settlement is made. With the speed that the news travels these days , its already given the place a bad name , even if they went through every necessary precaution to protect their guests and the family was irresponsible with their son.

But even still the sad reality is most people dont factor that into their mindset these days.

And honestly if there are "no swimming" or "beware of alligators" signs on the premises , its hard to believe the resort is liable for this event.

I read there are ''no swimming'' signs but there are no signs warning of gators.

if true there wasn't a sign warning of gators it should of been included with "no swimming". People from outside Florida probably wouldn't expect a gator in Disney. This family was from Nebraska and its safe to assume they didn't expect this to happen when being near or in the water.

Weirdest place on earth. My friend on Facebook made a post about how he doesn't like Florida, and talked about all the crazy shit that happened this week in Orlando - the woman from the Voice being gunned down, the Pulse massacre, and now the alligator eating the baby.

I wrote "Cubans, white supremacists, spring breakers, alligators and guns. What could go wrong?" Some of his friends started calling me a racist for the Cuban joke.

    oh wellz

Not to sound cold because i do feel for the parents but no swimming is no swimming. Walk right past the sign into the water and a horrible thing happened. Probably wouldn't have if they had heeded the sign.

Too light for a gator. Would of had to use the whole 1000 round mega magazine
