On vacation next week too. Lookin at Tues, Thurs, Fri for a midweek run to the shore. Not sure what the target will be, but I'm leaning towards the Blues during the week and another SeaBass run on either Sat/Sun.

apparently he caught 12, took home 6 or 7 between 5-11 lbs and missed a shot on a bass....... not a bad morning tossing lures from shore. he was pumped.

Cman, no need to sit on a headboat ;) put that 17' to work

Went out on the OE. Almost got the triple crown! High hook & Limit on Seabass but just missed on the pool fish. I was En Fuego!! Great to have a day like this every now and then. The Miss Belmar was ridiculously packed today. Every slot taken. The OE wasn't bad at all. Mostly because of all the "Bluefish Slaughter" reports coming out of Belmar. I think the OE was at most 80% full. Plenty room and for once, I guessed right and was on the sunny side of the boat! Nice and warm too.. :) If you go to the website, you'll see a nice write up on yours truly. They should have pictures up in a bit.

Friday its bluefish day. Will be on the Miss Belmar mainly because I have prepaid tickets to use up. Kinda looking forward to the fishfight.

I really do have to run my boat Stink. Would be nice if they stocked these lakes here with something other than trout too. Wifey's been hinting around it soooo, maybe next weekend. Kinda depends if I survive Friday's bluefish trip.

Man, that sounds like a hell of a trip, nicely done! Filling up the freezer early this year lol. I cannot imagine trying to fight big blues with that boat railed like that, days like that make me glad I can curse in several languages, because that's incredibly frustrating when it's even bottom fish. o_O
Do you keep them and smoke them ? I hear they're ok that way, but I've never done it.
I see Mrs C also got a shout out on the page and she didn't even make the trip. She must whoop ya pretty consistently hahaha. :p

KS, when Mrs. C gets it going I move down a spot on the rail and just let her work. The woman has "the touch" for Seabass which is amazing considering she's from Western Missouri and grew up sweetwater fishing for Crappie. :) She's known on the OE and yeah, usually I come in 2nd. Its all going in the same cooler so its all good. The OE is home field for us and they give me shit when I fish solo. We've been fishing with them for I think 5 years now. Sometimes its good to be a regular but they don't take it to the extreme like the Mohawk.

My new rig seems to have the sweet voodoo this year. Its been magic so far on both the Dauntless and the OE. Too bad the OE switches over to Fluke soon. Due to the tight limits on size and count, I really don't do much Fluking anymore. I plan on doing ONE Fluke trip this year but the nice thing about the Dauntless is that when they do bottom fishing, there's always a chance you can get a keeper Fluke or Cod or some other exotic. The downside of the Dauntless is that depending on who's Captain, they won't move the boat if a spot is slow. You just sit there and watch time slip away. Pisses me off no end too..

I haven't smoked any blues yet but I am curious. My recommendation would be to brine them in a salt/vinegar/water solution overnight before doing anything with them. That should draw a lot of the oil out. I would go with the lighter color meat and make fishcakes out of it. I'll let ya know how that works for me..

Ain't no bluefish in the lake..... ;)

Yes, smoking them is good. Oiliness helps keep it moist, and will be drawn out on the smoker anyway.
NO vinegar though!.... brine overnight in a strong brine of seasalt, brown sugar and a collection of seasoning of your choice. I'm sure you can find some suggestions online.

an hour before smoking, rinse in cold water and pat dry, and put back in fridge. the fillets should develop a tacky glaze on them, if brined right.

I've never fished for crappie, but I hear they have delicate mouths. Sounds like that soft touch needed carries over real well to the seabass.
That's always cool when you find a good boat with a crew you like and become a regular. I'm with you on the fluke, it just isn't the same anymore. Bucktailing is kind of fun for a bit, but I just can't really chase them with all the BS on the size and bag. I do like the mixed bag on the Dauntless...I think it's the old man who doesn't want to run the boat around,I've been lucky with that and only had it happen once or twice. That's why I love the Mimi, Kenny or Chris will chase 'em all over and put you on the fish.

Due to the PM weather forecast for Friday, I won't be going out for Blues. Instead, tomorrow I'll be headed out for some bottomfishing again. Not sure if it will be on the OE or the D but I have a different new rig to try out. Vacation is over on Sunday and the weather is iffy that day.

Another banner day for me! Almost another triple crown. Just missed the pool fish again and I think I know why. My fish was caught early in the day and put in a cooler. The winner was caught later and put in water. I have a feeling my fish lost water during the day and in effect, got "lighter". Came close to a double limit on Seabass. Limit is 10 and I had a limit by 11am! By the end of the day, I had 18 keeper Seabass, 2 Ling. Had to give away 6 to get under the limit and I caught my last two late after they stopped cleaning fish. They wound up in the cooler under the cleaned fish.. :)
New rig worked flawlessly once again. I do like baitcasters better than spinning reels for bottomfishing however, given today's results I may have to reconsider that. This season is shaping up quite nicely!

    Fish On!!

Damn man you whomped 'em again haha. Awesome! I think you're right about the water weight on your pool fish, sounds like it's time to bring in the fish life support lol. Get one of those 20 dollar bubble boxes and run the hose into a cooler. :) That's a real nice one , did you get measurements on it?
Sounds like your new rig is perfect for you, what did ya get again? "Didn't I cut your limit up already?" "That wasn't me, it was me in a hat. Now I have no hat, cut 'em up" :p

New Rig: Shimano Northeast Teramar 7' MH with MF action rated @ 20-50lb braid coupled with a Shimano Twin power SW 6000BHG spooled with 30lb.Power Pro Super Slick in Marine Blue. Rig is lethal. Nice gift to me from me and for once, Wifey didn't get pissed about the cash! :)

Update: I've finally learned how to tie a Grand Banks Hi/Lo rig. Different from dropper loops as there's no line twist at all. Will be using it this Sunday on the OE. Wifey's first trip of the year. Passed on Saturday due to late afternoon TStorms in the forecast and lately, these storms have been downright vicious.

    Fish On!
