We should have a national registry for guns. Every time somebody is killed by a gun the authorities should be able to trace the last point the gun was on the grid. That would go a long way towards solving the mystery of where illegal street metal comes from. We should have a national public health survey to show where gun deaths come from and how they are more preventable. There would be thousands of lives saved as a result of both processes. The NRA needs to shut up and sit down until the government is actually taking guns away from people. All the fear-mongering just allows the curse to continue and some very successful lobbyists and lawyers to continue getting paid like Saudi princes in the process. Right now the NRA and the Gun Lobby are getting thousands of people a year killed. Collateral damage from their self-preservationist instincts that turn into a golden goose for a few.
Lol at all of this. Registration is one step away from confiscation. And the NRA isn't getting thousands killed a year. Those guns used in crimes are mostly illegal guns in cities like Chicago, NY, and Philly that have some of the strictest gun laws in America. But let's keep punishing law abiding gun owners who never commit crimes for what some thug does with the gun he bought from the trunk of a car in the ghetto.
Our national car registry certainly had resulted in the government confiscating our cars. It's all the governments plan to kill the automobile industry and subjugate us to use government run public transportation.
Lol exactly, we must get these assault weapons off the streets before any more mass shooting occur. A majority of mass shooting are done with semi-automatic pistols and shotguns, not your GTA uzi's and fully load assault rifles.
I bought one at a gun show. In Texas. No background check or waiting period. Just handed the dude a cool thou and walked out with it. He even gift wrapped it for me. _
that's true. thank god or imagine how worse these shootings would be. The idea behind putting the brakes on these high output rifles is not so much to prevent the number of shootings but the severity and the potential severity of shootings. No crap most gun violence is gang bangers killing each other with a pistol over some drugs. But we are quite dumb as a society IMO when we bring that up as a reason to look the other way on high output rifles. Then we all send out "thoughts and prayers" when someone gets their hands on one and takes out an elementary school or a movie theater. pardon my pun but that's shooting ourselves in the foot IMO.
Yes, but you are the one that has argued a government registry equals government confiscation. You would need to show that there is a comparable example in which the government has used such a registry to confiscate property. Conversely, to dispute that position all that has to be shown is that government registries have not resulted in government confiscation.
I have never understood the big problem with having guns in a national registry. I would actually be surprised if they didn't already have one. Every time you buy a guy you have to do a federal background check where they get the info on the gun and your ssn. You mean to tell me they don't save that? Yea - sure. I also don't understand wtf it would even accomplish, but who gives a flying fuck if the government has a list of your guns. I'm sure they have much more controversial lists.
