Cro's deal cost us 8M we could have rolled over into this year and given to Fitz or Mo.

I'm sorry man but the only person that is playing stupid ball is Fitz. He is in no way, shape or football form worth what he is asking. Furthermore, he is not, either for the Jets or in any other football universe, remotely capable of being six games better than anyone...including Geno. We continue to base the analysis on one decent season with Fitz with studs at his disposal and the Geno of freaking 2 years ago with that putrid CS. We still don't know what we have with Geno but we sure as shit know we have a JAG with Fitz. Hence a one year deal till we find out who can replace him.

I'm not sure who the "we" is you reference in the bolded but certainly a factor in what the Jets are proposing must be not based on one season but that if Fitzpatrick does not sign the team is left with only Smith ready to work the quarterback position in 2016. If there was any kind of management confidence in Smith as a starter we'd have had this situation cleared up months ago.

How would the fans act if Fitz looked like shit the first 4 games? And Jets lost all 4 of them?

If management has no confidence in Smith as a starter, Fitz or someone else would already be signed.
Fitz not on the roster right now is evidence of the opposite.

This is a ridiculously dumb question because it's the opposite of what happened.

Quick question guys, what would you do if Brandon Marshall dropped 4 touchdown passes in the first four games and the Jets lost all four of them?

Didn't the Jets have like 3 must win games prior to week 17 including against the Pats if they wanted a chance at the playoffs? Didn't we win all of those? Fitz played pretty damn well vs the Pats in a big game week 16, didn't he?

There were a lot of big games leading up to that one. You can keep pointing at the one bad game, but it doesn't fool anyone who remembers what actually happened last season.

It's just repeating the same tired crap.

The 5 weeks prior to the Bills game was one of the most enjoyable stretches of games we've had in a long time and Fitz was huge in those games.

He threw one really shitty pass in a game when his top 2 running backs were gone, the punter sucked moose cock and the defense was awful and let Tyrod Fucking Taylor do what he wanted.

    Yet Fitz "choked".

Disagree completely. No one is under the gun; there's no hurry to get this done. Training camp is two months away and Bowles has said that's when it needs to be done by.

If they had "confidence" in Smith they wouldn't be offering a career journeyman who some dudes on this board actually thinks sucks a multi-year multi-multi-million dollar contract.

There is no rush to get this done and the Jets have made it clear they want Fitz back to lead this team--at a fair price with salary cap flexibility.

    Nothing to see here.

    Incorrect.

We are mired in $ negotiations with the presumed starter and the one the CS wants

Not sure what this Board not getting

According to Bowles Smith is just "the next man up" not the one he really wants at QB

Of the last half of the schedule Fitz played terribly against Houston and Buffalo twice (the only 3 games vs a really strong defense)

He played well against the Pats and Dolphins

He was OK against the Giants and Titans..defense destroyed the Titans from the start and shutout the Giants in the 2nd half

He was pretty bad except for the final drive against the Cowboys..a game we should have lost if we weren't playing against a 3rd string QB

We were in those must win games because of his garbage play the 2 weeks before that against Houston and Buffalo game 1

That's a pretty good analysis of the situation, some are losing sight of the cap hell the Jets are in right now. But the bigger issue is the Jets have nothing without a competent quarterback and all of a sudden everyone is on crack convincing themselves that somehow Geno isn't a failed mental case anymore. The QB is the last position you want to go cheap on. The other 90% of the payroll is wasted if the QB doesn't hold his own.

Jets need to find a way to up the money to give Fitz more long term stability and work it into the cap. He clearly wants to be here but at the same he's trying to make sure he doesn't get dumped after year 1 or 2

It's worth noting that Fitz played hurt against Jax, Buff, and Hou. Not being able to take snaps under center properly wrecks a good chunk of the offense.

Fair enough but he was also "hurt" the next week against the Dolphins and played very well so I don't like to use that excuse.

Yeah they went out of the gun but you still have to make good decisions and throw the ball where it needs to go

He also had some shaky games early in the season when we wasn't hurt yet so it's hard to say how much it affected him

I remember him looking solid/good when Decker was healthy along with Kerley, week 1 against the Raiders and the first half of the Packers game he looked good. He was up and down afterwards with a hobbled Decker. I remain cautiously optimistic that with a year on the bench and a year learning the system that he can step in and play well.

He got the surgery in between the Buff and Hou games. He was doing better by the Miami game.
