You don't pull the offer without warning. If you want to play hardball, you give him a 24 hour deadline to accept and then pull the offer. I'm not there yet though. I've consistently said my deadline is the start of TC, and tabloid journalists aren't going to change that.
It's nice that's your deadline but what's much more important is that it's also the deadline Bowles cited in one of the recent news stories. We may not believe everything we see online or in the newspapers but that statement was one of very few that had an actual name attached to it. I have no problem waiting 6 - 8 weeks to see what happens; it's not like there's a game being played in the next three months.
For the record, if Fitz isn't signed in the next half hour I'm officially moving on. Just so's you all know.
I have had enough of fitzpatrick this guy is a greedy fuck that only cares about getting paid and not the team I hope he doesnt sign he isnt the answer lets start geno and move on and yes geno sucks
Name those rookies and worst situations. Facts and realistic reasons are not "excuses." It's a fact that the Jets had no offensive talent around Geno to help him. They had no veteran mentor (Sanchez doesn't count). He had an absolute boob for a HC who still knows zero about offense or developing a young QB and as far as I know boobs for an OC and QB coach. I'm not excusing Geno's part in it all. He was immature, petulant, unfocused, was lacking in leadership qualities, made dumb decisions (but what 21 year olds don't make dumb decisions?), pouted, etc. Not paying Ik what he owed him was selfish, childish/immature, and then taunting him, flat out stupid. He appears to have learned from his mistakes, is working hard and making an effort to be a leader, to be focused, and to try to salvage his career. He has already demonstrated that he can play well in games, and he played pretty well in Oakland last year in relief of Fitz. The Jets owe it to themselves and to their fans to give Geno every opportunity to succeed. At this point, he's the closest thing we have to a QB of the future. We all need to hope that he develops or that Hack or Petty will quickly; otherwise, we're stuck in the same sorry position of needing a franchise QB, and in all likelihood not being in the position to get one, because our defense will be too good to allow us to be picking at the top of the draft.
The offer i suggested would make him the lowest paid starting QB in the league (not on a rookie deal). How would that be 'above market' or 'charity'?
Not to mention we've already seen what Geno's got, and it a'int good. Adding Marshall isn't going to transform him.
In what world is 12M for one year, for a serviceable starting QB, unreasonable? NO other starter is making less than 16M per (not on a rookie deal). The impasse isn't even over the 12M, it's over years 2 and 3. You don't throw away a season over that.
You are arguing rationality with irrational fans. It's lolworthy when folks say "fuck it, he takes $6.5M or he's outta here!" The Jets are simply trying to balance years versus guaranteed $$, not the absolute $ amount this year. Fitz is trying to get as much protection in his 2nd and 3rd year as he can. It's a negotiation with 2 willing partners that are just having trouble coming to a middle round. Nothing more to see here. _
Lol. But the other half of you dudes looking to kick Fitz to the curb are saying he's not worth what the FO is offering. _
