I feel bad for Wright. He breaks his ass to get on the field ... But the fact is, the guy was striking out twice a game. We'll probably produce more runs moving Walker to third and bringing up Dilson Herrera to play 2nd. EDIT --- looks like Reynolds gets the call instead. I guess they're going to see if Flores can snap out of it.
I guess they value Reynolds' middle inf defense off the bench? He can't hit either tho. They don't have a lot of options right now however. They don't seem very anxious to bring Herrera up yet. I'm assuming they just don't want to rush the kid yet, and they want him playing every day to let him mature some more, he's 22 yr. I'd like to hear from Sandy at some point about Herrera, and the roster options down the road.
In October Daniel Murphy is going to be the difference between a World Series appearance and playing golf in Florida
I was thinking why not try TJ Rivera at 3rd, or move Walker to 3rd and put Herrera at 2nd, but then I read this Michael Baron Verified account @michaelgbaron 3h3 hours ago Dobbs Ferry, NY As for TJ Rivera, he would require a 40-man move. Calling up Reynolds tells me (opinion) #Mets are saving that 40-man move for external plyr 3GB with a problem at 1st, 3rd, catcher, and no bench. I just don't want things to get out of hand.
We need to keep it together until d'Arnaud and Duda get back and hope all the bats get hot again like last year. I think the pitching can keep us close. Especially if Harvey is back. _
David Wright out 6-8 weeks at a minimum with herniated disc. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...mets-needs-6-8-weeks-rest-herniated-disk-neck _
This isn't all that bad. With the arms we should certainly hold the fort. The pressure is on Wilmer imo to up his game, and Conforto will prolly have his ups and downs and may hit a bit of a wall through the grind of a complete MLB season. Granderson, RF Cabrera, SS Cespedes, CF Walker, 2B Conforto, LF Flores, 3B Loney, 1B Rivera, C Syndergaard, P
The solution is so simple ... And it just dawned on me. Move Cabrera to 3rd. Before the season started, he said he'd play 3rd if Wright got injured. So now we need a SS. There's a guy in Colorado named Reyes who would LOVE to play in NY. They can't use him there with Story tearing it up. We could get him for nothing, and I know he'll play balls out for us. This is a no brainer. Get it done Alderson!!
It's actually hard to believe that he'll be back in two months. It's a shame, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if his career is pretty much over.
I wouldnt want to move Cabrera. He's an awesome defender. Not so say Reyes isnt but he hasnt played in a longggg time. At this point Astrubal is probably better. And with Reyes' recent off the field issues (plus his contract) I doubt thats the player that the team wants to target. A move needs to be made though. Cant have Wright out for 2 months and continue to roll with a mixture of Flores/Reynolds/Kelly. Todd Frazier would've made so much sense for this team to target in the offseason.
Yeah ... There are obviously some cons, but the pros blow them away. I wouldn't even suggest it if Asdrubal didn't already bring it up. Reyes is light years better than any other option we have, and he was playing well in Toronto. I can't blame him for being deflated going from first place, to the worst team in the league. His numbers last year were .274 with 7 hrs, 25 doubles and 24 steals -- in only 116 games. He would be reborn coming here. We see it all the time in sports. I really think he instantly cures our disease.
It's prolly gonna be a hold the fort kind of deal like last year until the trade deadline. Everything opens up then when teams that are out of it are looking to move contracts, and older players. Duda's prolly okay. But d'Arnaud's injury is scary. If he's okay that's a boost. He's a major league hitter..... Some youth couldn't hurt. Herrera and Nimmo maybe? Waiting to hear from Sandy regarding those two......
If Wright misses 60 straight games the Mets get back 75% of the money from those games and all other games he misses from insurance. If he retires they get 75% of the rest of the contract back. _
I wouldn't hate it. But would Colorado eat most of that $$? Cause no way the Wilpons would be taking on that contract in the hopes of a reborn player. Doubt they would even take on half of it. I brought up Valencia and Trevor Plouffe as 2 guys I think could be available right now. Both third basemen with a little 1B and OF versatility if/when Wright comes back. Target someone like that and no one has to change positions and the bench guys stay on the bench.
At this point I dont see any way he comes back next season. Other than the $$ obviously. For him to even be cleared to play again would be a miracle , but eventually he will and join the team for the stretch run in mid to late August. Whether or not he stays healthy from that point on is anybody's guess. I wouldn't bet on it.
Yeah, he's not gonna want to miss the stretch run. Maybe if he sits those 60 games Sandy can use that money to grab a player. Not that it should matter at this point with the Coupons. Last year was probably a windfall for them....Time to up the ante with those two... I'd like to see the team move on from Wright next year.....
Plouffe isn't a bad idea. He never hits for average, but he generally puts the bat on the ball and would probably give us better HR / RBI numbers than what we'd get from Wright this year. I'd be fine with that move.
Yeah injuries have been his issue lately. But he's hit 20 homers for the Twins just a couple years ago. 25 if Im not mistaken. Who knows if Minny would shop him but Im sure they would want pitching in return. Would have no problem swapping Montero for him.
Nice way to get back on track. I knew as soon as Mike Dunn came in for the Fish we were in good shape.
