if this was baseball..... sure. but in a salary cap league you cant just make short sighted win now moves, especially with a mediocure team, and not deal with the future ramifications.
Baseball is the sport where you build over the long term. E.g. Royals, Mets, Cubs, Pirates, Nats. The win now teams normally fail, e.g. Marlins, Padres, Dbacks, etc. OTOH typically the way a bad football team gets good is by hiring a new GM/coach, getting a new QB, and immediately getting better. E.g. Pats 15 years ago, Broncos, Cardinals, Seahawks. The Panthers took a couple years, but they're the exception more than the rule.
If you're going to be stupid at least be funny. Stupid and boring is a horrible thing to be. Do better.
Could you guys stfu about the lobotomy? I'm trying to learn something about the Fitz situation here....
Well considering Brad had called Derek Carr a career journeyman at best, I'd do that trade in the next 15 minutes. _
Forget Fitz. IMO The Jets are better off with Geno. Quick short routes and deep bombs were his specialty in College. Maybe not playing from behind will make Geno less likely to be an idiot. One possibility is that Wentz kills it and we make a trade for Bradford. I'd start with Geno and a 4th and when they come back Id settle at Geno and a third and it gets done after his signing bonus is paid. Would you do it for a second and only a 5M cap hit this year? #jets115
Meaty okra. The irony. Imo Fitz can fuck off. He's beginning to come off as a whiny, entitled bitch. Say no to a 24mil deal while you're 34 years old? He's playing off of the Jets emotions instead of his talent, and that's just sad. According to several reports Mac offered an incentive laden deal and it wasn't good enough for shitz. Fuck him, thanks for a fun year through December. Goodbye
There's no alternative in which the Jets get better value out of their cap dollars. We're not going to keep Mo on a cap-friendly deal and he isn't worth a huge cap-busting deal. I like him a lot as a player and I have a great deal of respect for the way he carries himself on and off the field. That said, he's not Bruce Smith or J.J. Watt and paying him as if he is isn't going to help the Jets win a Super Bowl. If he has to get a huge deal it is going to have to be somewhere else and in that case I'd rather get something useful for him now than a sandwich pick between the 3rd and 4th rounds in 2018 - a pick that we may not even see if the QB situation falls apart and we wind up signing a big free agent QB to a huge deal in 2017. Having Drew Brees come in the door on a big 3 year deal at the same time Mo leaves probably means no compensation pick at all.
I would feel more confident in starting Geno, if Mac came out and put it in writing that we are drafting a QB with the overall number one pick.
