Mo is the best player on this team, we need him more than journeyman

Mo may be the best player on the team, but QB is the most important position on the team. And when you have a win-now team missing only a viable starting QB, it would be stupid beyond belief not to make sure your QB is under contract for the big season upcoming. Fitz and his agent know this, so they have all the leverage, as that Post article (Costello) astutely pointed out. There's no way Mac would be stupid enough to go into this season without his QB, but at the same time Fitz doesn't have anywhere else to go, so something will get done eventually. It just has to play itself out.

And there's no reason why this team can't lock up all of its key stars and fill in with cheaper players around them, that's what the smart franchises do. So obviously both Mo and Fitz will remain a part of the team. It was ridiculous that some were thinking that it had to be one or the other.

That's what I was saying all of yesterday. But nobody listened of course.

The whole team was horrible in that game, we just got outplayed top to bottom by the Bills. They were way more fired up than we were. If you want to blame it on any one individual, maybe Bowles deserves the blame for not having his squad fired up enough to match Rex and co's intensity?

Your overating his value, I really think Geno could not get us to the playoffs just as much as Fitz choked last year and Geno comes cheap

They would be stupid to over pay as well. esp if they believe one of the young qbs could be ready in 2 yrs. As for your point they are sb contender with him... Hard to see that. I like fitz but it was an easier schedule last yr then this yr. I like him but be real dude no one is offering 12 million a yr for him so why overpay and compete against yourself for the privledge of

I don't understand what leverage he thinks he has. No one is going to sign him for more than $12 mil to be a backup. Even IF a starter gets hurt in training camp, that team isn't going to pay him more than $12 mil to come fill in. They probably wouldn't even have the cap room considering they're already paying a high priced starter. His best offer is, was, and always will be from the Jets. Why should they budge a single penny?

We are not "only missing Fitz" we are missing a legit franchise QB.....Fitz is literally a nobody in the world of NFL QBs. Seriously, what are some of you guys watching? Do you watch other NFL games?

He makes shitty throws with terrible accuracy regularly, he's small, and has the worst arm in the league....he has been a career stopgap with no real upside and has been dumped by every team he's ever played for after they got to know the real Fitz

Being a good leader, moving well out of the pocket, and being "fearless" can only get you so far with a damn ragarm

Pay him 6 million and if he doesn't like it tell him to take a hike and go find his 15 or 12 or 10 million somewhere else.....which he will not

Good God, we offered him a multi year deal with 12M in the first year> Has this franchise gone completely crazy? Obviously Mac is at least as bas as every other GM we have had here in for as long as anybody wants to remember.

I like where negotiations are heading. It's better to overpay Fitz in the first year of the deal if we come up with the restructure money which I think we already have.
I'd be fine with a three year deal as long as there's no guarantees for the third year. He's clearly our best option to start this season. Everyone seems to be on board with bringing him back.
Sign this beast and let's compete for a fucking playoff spot this season. If Hackenberg or somehow Petty emerges the next year and we have one season of Fitz being an overpaid backup so be it. at least a better option emerged and we can move on after year two.
Please let a contract get worked out within the next week or two so the team can move on to preparing for the regular season..please and thank you Mac!

You guys are clowns..finally had above average QB play for the first season since Favre and it's being completely taken for granted. Makes me sick.

Wow talk about excuses. Sorry Fitz did " shit the bed". The Jets had a chance to take the lead in that but Fitzs throws that pick in the endzone with his WR covered.

Keep in mind that all this is still speculation. Only the team and Fitzpatrick's camp know the full terms and numbers. With all the scribes pretty much writing the same story, there's probably some truth to it but it could be a case of them trusting a douchebag who may have had some bit of information and created the rest.

check yourself please. allot of people want him back but don't want to overpay for a guy who had a career yr esp when bidding against ourselves you do realize there are very limited options for him and no team is offering him as much correct? When you post the above without context you look like a fan boy

I can tell you what leverage he has in three words:

    Smith.
    Petty.
    Hackenberg.

Do you realize the QBs on our roster aren't capable of bringing us to more than 4-5 wins maybe Geno can get us to 6. This isn't some long term commitment it's going to play out as a 2 year deal that fairly compensates him for his career year and gives us the best QB available on the market..one who has a tremendous chemistry and working relationship with our OC and WRs. It's foolish to act like he's not the best option for this team in 2016 and realistically 2017 as well.

Geno as a rookie QB got us to 8 wins with a much worse team and coaching staff so you don't know that at all.
