Not impressed. They called Cooper, but they didn't give high grades to any of the other top rookies. And they gave the Devin Smith pick an A. Looking at these grades, I can see that for all their "analytics," they don't seem any better at evaluating players as any other pundit.

    OROY Nominees:
    1. Gurley B-
    2. Winston B
    3. Cooper A+

    DROY Nominees:
    1. Peters B
    2. Darby C
    3. Williams B

    Jets:
    1. Williams B
    2. Smith A
    3. Mauldin B+

    NFL Round 1:
    1. Winston B
    2. Mariota B
    3. Fowler A-
    4. Cooper A+
    5. Scherff C-
    6. Williams B
    7. White B
    8. Beasley A+
    9. Flowers C
    10. Gurley B-
    11. Waynes D
    12. Shelton A
    13. Peat B
    14. Parker A
    15. Gordon B
    16. Johnson D+
    17. Armstead C-
    18. Peters B
    19. Irving B-
    20. Agholor A
    21. Ogbeuhi B
    22. Dupree D-
    23. Ray B
    24. Humphries C-
    25. Thompson D-
    26. Perriman B
    27. Jones C+
    28. Tomlinson A
    29. Dorsett D+
    30. Randall C
    31. Anthony B-
    32. Brown B

People were asking on the Hack thread how we can evaluate PFF's accuracy. As far as I know, my OP on this thread is the only way to do so, so I'm bumping it.

Williams is only a B and you agree with that? I used to respect your opinion.

Analyzing PFF's analysis of guys they didn't feel were great value in round 1 (below C grade):

    NFL Round 1:

    5. Scherff C- Incorrect. He's played well, starting from day 1.
    9. Flowers C Correct so far. He may do better switching to the right side.
    11. Waynes D Correct so far. Only had 1 start despite being drafted 11th overall.
    16. Johnson D+ Incorrect. Looks like a promising corner.
    17. Armstead C- Correct so far. didn't make much impact for where he was drafted.
    22. Dupree D- Too soon to tell. didn't do much last year, but D- is a pretty strong grade.
    24. Humphries C- Too soon to tell. didn't start at all on the Oline as they are developing him.
    25. Thompson D- Too soon to tell, but showed some flashes as an undersized LB.
    29. Dorsett D+ Correct so far.

Overall it looks to me like PFF actually did a somewhat decent job with assigning poor first round grades.
Hit on some, missed on some, which is par for the course when immediately grading a draft.

Draft grades are about web hits though. It's nothing to get worked up over.
No one should be judging the Jets draft solely based on the draft grades of any 'pundit'.
It doesn't affect my views on Hack.

Seems like the same job some of the draft guys on here could do

Take them with a grain of salt

Let's keep the train rolling and I'm going to grade your evaluation of the pff grades.

    5. Scherff - I give you an f. Of course the grade of C- was correct by pff. He was the 5th pick of the draft. He may have "played well" last year but he's certainly not played like a top 5 talent. If he was the #10 pick, he would've gotten a better grade. The analysis is about value as much as talent.

    9. Flowers - I'll give you an A. That was a very good evaluation of their evaluation. Everyone agrees, Reese has lost his touch.

11-16 A- - Waynes and Johnson. Those are fair evaluations.

17 Armstead C- - No one could make an impact of that dismal niners D. He had a respectable year and got good penetration when he played. 17 is a little high for what he brought to the table but not completely unreasonable.

22 Dupree F - Too soon to tell is a total cop out. It was believed that he was a huge stretch in the first round and he's done nothing to counter that claim.

    24 Humphries F - see above

25 Thompson C - see above. I gave you a bump for your recognizing the flashes he's shown

26 Dorsett A - The colts' fo needs to be replaced.

To reiterate. This is not a grade of the draft picks. This is a grade of your evaluation of pffs grades.

It amazes me how people still read PFF. It was no longer legitimate source when they gave Aaron Rodgers a negative grade when he tossed like 5 TDs with a 70% completion rate against the Chiefs.

I don't do pff so I'm not taking a side. I didn't even know about the Rogers thing until I read your post. Here is a link to an article explaining the bad grade but there's a comment in the comment section that imo does a better job or justifying/explaining the grade.

To make it simple....if Rodgers played against a bad college team with his Packers and passed for 8 TDs so what they are a bad college team and he should have had 12 TDs. What looks good to the untrained eye is not necessarily good. Bet you didn't know that the Chiefs had 3 of their 4 starting CBs out due to injury and were starting newbies. Rodgers did OK but flubbed easy plays he should not have and got away with it because of his poor competition. He got 5 TDs against CBs who lack both the experience and the talent. Wow let's make him president (just kidding) but maybe now you can better understand the analysis. Rodgers had a gimmee game screwed up and still walks away looking great because his competition was far under par. Now you know. <edit>

Yeah I read that a while back and it's nitpicking just to do it. You play who is on the field and even with 3 of their 4 starting CBs out. To throw 5 TDs is still impressive and does not deserve a negative ranking. Chiefs still had a good pass-rush and decent safeties. Rodgers just makes everything look easy. Do I think Fitz could do what Rodgers did that day with the same personnel / coaching? Hell no.

PFF adds too much subjectivity into a sport that already has a ton of it.

Remember how shitty Favre's game was when he threw 6 TDs against the Cards?

    Man he sucked that day.

    haha, well played...
a certain amount of subjectivity is unavoidable in any of these reviews.

now I'll wait for someone else to grade your grades of my analysis on PFF's post draft review :p

the advanced stats have useful information imo, as well as things like snap counts, etc.. which i find useful as reference.

everyone gets hung up on player grades tho.

That's their major contribution. I do appreciate the fact they provide completion % when being thrown at though. Really good stat.
