Except the fact that Darron Lee despite his speed - wasn't that effective in coverage.( according to profootball focus last year- . There have been a lot of fast lb's/safeties ( see Taylor Mays/ Demario Davis) in the NFL who weren't as good in coverage, as their speed would suggest. There takes more than running fast in a straight line ( what receiving threat does just that) to play in coverage , why Scouts tend to put big emphasis on the three cone drill. My point until Darron Lee shows he can be effective in the NFL in coverage, I'm not counting on that part of his game yet.( obvious we all hope that is the case). Much more confident in him becoming a weapon on third down when he's given an opportunity to blitz.

He goes into much better detail and it contrasts to PFF [whom has questionable statistics at times]. Technique always needs improvement, but his ability to play in coverage is there.
I hope your right( those reports you posted are correct) , but I will wait to see for myself just how good Darron Lee is in coverage.
We didn't draft offense as our first pick but I think one of OSU s best players from a national champ team would make any CS happy Kid will step in day one and make a difference Too many Debbie downers quick to critique here
I understand your skepticism. I don't know how Pro Football Focus filtered/judged Lee's coverage abilities, but it is my understanding that his coverage abilities were skewed quite a bit because for a time last season at OSU he was covering everyone who came across the middle, WRs, RBs and TEs. If that's true, then that would definitely cast his coverage abilities in a negative light. With the Jets, more than likely, he won't be covering WRs, at least not initially, and will cover only TEs and RBs.
Thanks for these links. I especially liked the latter of the two although I couldn't finish it because of all the repetition. I have never seen any report or article where there was more redundancy. I could understand saying some things 2 times, but I swear he must have said some of the same things at least 5 times if not closer to 10. Anyway, this really makes me excited about Lee and his potential.
With our front if I don't get at least 12 sacks each from Mauldin, Lee, and Jenkins we just chuck all three of them I say. I fully expect 10 each off the blitz from Pryor and Skrine. At least 10 each, fuck that
Everyone will be watching how Lee performs against the elite players ie Gronk and Bennet This should not be his entire measuring stick but it will be important IMO he wont shut RG down, arguably one of the best players in the NFL but I would like to see him take away a big play from the Pats in the red zone where it counts
I think Lee will be a very pleasant surprise. The Jets can stop the run just fine without him. Rushing the passer, from any direction, and covering mid range passes has been a problem. They just need to use him correctly.
Perhaps, but with Bowles' Ds, there are often more DBs on the field than usual. Lee may cover some slot WRs, but I'll bet that he won't be asked to cover many WRs even though he has the speed to.
Our front 7 has always been stout, but never really fast. We finally got a fast player in there. I am not worried to much about his size when Mo, Richardson, and Williams are going to be gobbling up blockers in front of him.
These threads are always funny. Any player who gets selected outside of the top 5 (and even still) will have legitimate question marks on them, that's why they didn't go higher. But let's gather and harp on their negatives, as if you couldn't do the same with virtually every other player who was selected on draft weekend.
