They missed on Zobrist, but signed Ces afterwards. That actually worked out. They just weren't gonna pay Murph all that money. Walker was a good trade off also.

Your future Catcher came down with a Rotator cuff and Wilmer's hurt. It's nice that Plawecki can throw a runner out here and there, but d'ARNAUD is a major league hitter. And if he can't catch they're gonna need a Catcher.

Zobrist would've been a good fit tho. But I'll be shocked if Sandy doesn't make some moves at some point to get a guy like him. They need more out of 1st Base and 3rd Base.
If Wright doesn't pick it up, and doesn't accept that I'm gonna lose respect for him. I'm rooting for him tho. See Cuddy last year: play a role then. Don't be selfish
They have a couple of guys that are close in the minors also.

Dudu's a wus, and Grandy needs to pick it up. Grandy last year played a huge role in leading the team on the field when it was needed and nobody but Ces is getting that done right now.

Still way way too early to panic. There's high's and lows for every team in MLB

Cant disagree. We are one player short with Wright not being even what he was last year , and maybe Grandy starting to decline and Walker being a little bit of a downgrade from Murph as a complete hitter.

The Murphy situation is looking bad for us now , but in 2 years when he's making 17 mil a year it might look differently. Supposedly the team is high on Herrera and that went into their Murphy decision , who knows if thats really the case or maybe it was just the $$. Probably a mixture of both.

The thing with Flores is that I feel like he needs a place on the team. I either want to see him bat every day, because I've seen flashes of good hitting, or I don't want to see him at all. He's not a reliable glove in the field coming in for defense, it's all about his bat, and he is young and needs to get everyday reps. I feel like it's hard to get an evaluation on him with the role that he plays on this team. The way things are going he might get a shot at third base though.

Losing Wilmer was tough 'cause now we're relying on Campbell, and Plawecki, on top of the other woes.

But, more importantly, it's the status of Harvey and Matz that matters the most right now for the future of the team

Maybe if Harvey didn't come off as such a douche he wouldn't be getting all this flack. The guy is 3-6! THREE AND SIX!!!

That's another thing that sucks...when Wilmer was healthy early in the season there was no playing time for him and he struggled. Now that there's playing time for him he's on the DL.

To me the problem with Harvey is simple. When he isnt thowing 98 he wont get hitters out with any consistency. Bottom line. He isnt crafty enough like the other guys to get out hitters consistently.

As long as he isnt injured he can still figure it out. But I think we missed the boat on trading the dude when his value was at an alltime high.

Murphy more often than not is a rise to the occasion player. I've always liked that about him.

Matt confidence is clearly shot. There's discussion about Harvey weight. We talked about that last season on this forum, but he was pitching fine. He looks about the same as he did last yr, so I'm not thinking it's the weight. You're hearing a lot of it could be this... it could be that... IDK what's going on with him I just want it fixed.

Ron Darling - 'If Matt (Harvey) can't find it here - maybe he finds it in Las Vegas!" I kind of agree but I kind of don't. I mean Matt confidence is clearly shot. Matt has a prima donna feel about himself, and maybe a trip to the Minors would make him feel worst.

It's still early in the season, maybe you just cross your fingers and hope he figures it out here?

I wasn't angry with him last night, I was just sad for him.

It was thought Wheeler in Colon bullpen/ spot starter but?

I have to believe Harvey figures it out by then.

Mets offense feels like it's worst than it was last year before the Cespedes trade. Matt Harvey taking all the headline is saving them from the pitchforks.

Bingo. When he was throwing 97 98 mph everything else looks way better. When he is constantly around 93 94 the drop off in his off speed pitches and slider is so minimal its easy to adjust at the plate.

I know there are possible tangible reasons for Harvey's decline...the innings pitched last year, the whole being out of shape thing - but deep down I still wonder how much the ninth inning of Game 5 plays into this. I don't hear it getting talked about enough as having carryover effect but think about it, Harvey fancies himself as Joe Namath-Mark Messier-Derek Jeter well that was Harvey's Joe Namath-Mark Messier-Derek Jeter moment. He was going to demand the ball, get out in front of the screaming fans and pitch the Mets to glory - until he failed. That may well have punctured his confidence.

I can understand that theory if that was Game 7. Reality is even if we won Game 5 it still would've been a tough tough challenge to win 2 in KC after that. If Harvey cant realize that the oppourtunity is still there for the team this year then he isnt too bright.

I really think a lot of it has to do with him being out of shape. Moreso than the innings from last year or anything more drastic. Look at games from the beginning of last year. He's always been sort of stocky , but to me this year he just looks heavy. Not Bartolo level obviously but I would guess he's put on about 10 pounds in the last year.

All of a sudden Murphy is a golden glover against us. Didn't see that one coming. People are piling on Harvey right now, and I get it, but many of those runs weren't his fault. Multiple errors in the field led to many but he still gave up a lot of hits. I don't think it's a confidence thing. I can't see that making his pitches slower than they used to be. It has to be an injury of some kind because it seems to be purely about his arm strength. He's not pitching as fast as he was before. Also the team definitely isn't helping him by not hitting.

    1. Granderson, RF
    2. Cabrera, SS
    3. Conforto, LF
    4. Cespedes, CF
    5. Walker, 2B
    6. Duda, 1B
    7. Campbell, 3B
    8. Rivera, C
    9. Matz, P
Wright's out again and Walker moved up ahead of Dudu, good. Campbell- Rivera fill out the bottom of the lineup, ugh. Wilmer sure would look better at 3rd there.

I hope we can add a guy at some point to facilitate the platooning of Duda and Wright, and not have the D disappear altogether in a move of desperation.
A lefty hitter at 3rd tonite, or at 2nd, and Walker at 3rd, at some point

If Matz has a good start and comes out of it well that'll be a big plus in the big picture

    Regarding Harvey, fwiw.

I don't believe it's conditioning, drinking, or dick problems either.

The Mets have to be really careful with these guys. It's critical. Hopefully any time we here something about Matz, deGrom, Harvey, or Noah, that's what it is first of all. Them being cautious.
Tommy John surgery is a dynamic that has to be dealt with in MLB now. It's actually surprising when a guy doesn't need it.
Wheeler's gonna have adjustment pains too.

Well that's not good. Matz hasn't pitched in a long time. Last time he went this long without pitching he got rocked. Hoping that won't happen today. If the Mets offense can't wake up against Wily Peralta I'll be very

Safe to say Harvey is done after throwing the most innings for any pitcher coming off Tommy John? He has looked awful. Guess he really should have sat for the postseason last year.

I love David to death but it's at the point where I was like thank god noodle bat Campbell was in there, cause at least he can make defensive plays.
