This may be a good year to bet Jets to cover...at least early in the season.

I still think Fitz will be back. I just can't see any other outcome.

    6-10 without Fitz

Possible 10-6 with him on board

Yep. They also predicted the Dolphins to win the division.

I get a kick how Fitz keeps his mouth shut and his team mates do his press work for him. He may think he's being smart but he's alienating himself from the fans. (whom he had in his back pocket at one point.) I honestly hope Geno starts at this point. Giving the schedule were up against, Fitz wouldn't get us any where near the playoffs.

Chan is fantastic. I love his poised and steady way.
He basically says, I will not get wrapped up in a QB controversy and I'll coach whomever is here.
It just struck me as representative of the changes the Jets have gone through and the professionalism I've come to appreciate from them. No boisterous talk, no drama just football.

129 pages later... still nowhere near a deal. it's time to move on. Jets haven't even made any moves that would lead to us being ABLE to sign him plus we drafted a QB high.. TBH Fitz aint repeating last year with this schedule anyway.

Still believe Fitz should and will be the opening day starter. But food for thought: last year the Jets only played 3 games against top 10 defenses (NE, NE, HOU) and went 1-2. This year, 5 of their first 7 games are against teams that finished in the top 11 (Bengals were 0.4 YPG out of the top 10 so I'll extend it) and another is against a Bills defense that swallowed Fitz twice and should be improved. Then they still have to face that Pats defense twice and the Bills again down the road.

No matter who the QB is, our defense really has to step up this year to keep us in games. I don't see the offense scoring nearly as much as last year.

To extend on that last post, the Jets played 9 games against teams in the bottom 10 in total defense this year. I know you can only play who's in front of you, but...

I'm comfortable with letting Geno, Petty and Hack compete. Let the best man win.

I think Gailey believes Geno is the right guy for the job. Gailey might be the last Geno supporter left in the building.

Well that's the 14 million dollar question isn't it?

I think this regime actually does like Geno. He was going to start last year, I think they are at least confident enough in him to not budge on contract negotiations with Fitz.

Not saying it's the right decision. Just what I'm starting to believe.

Agree completely. I will add my 2 cents to it.
Chan might see a lot more to Geno's game than most all of us. He knows what he can and can not do and sees him on the field up front and personal. Second, if you read between the lines he is not at all enamored with having 4 QB. That means the rookies will see a lot less reps and that is not good for their development. Finally, how much in that 10-6 record is attributable to Fitz in the coaches eyes, and his ability to duplicate it. I'll venture to say not too many defenses will be trembling at the though of facing Fitz in 2016. If Chan thinks he can coach Geno out of his major brain fart mistakes we might have a totally new ball game. And put 12M to really good use for this year and the future.

I strongly believe that if Chan whispers to the GM I can be comfortable with Geno the game is over for Fitz. And the 12M dollar question will properly be put to bed.

Fitz IMO was never worth 14M. I am glad the Jets did not fold. If he got us into the playoffs and played better, then maybe there should be discussion, but that never transpired.

This is a great post and puts everything in perspective. Gailey has his hands full with 3 young QBs, it will be tough to divide the time in terms of preparation and development. Should be interesting to see how they allocate the time.

I personally believe Petty is the key to all of this and his development, if he doesn't show the improvement needed, the CS could just have Petty hanging as the 3rd QB or even worse putting him on the practice squad. They don't have time to develop 3 QBs.
