Mis-spoke is a little too strong a word, maybe confused the two is better. I knew what you meant to say and so did probably everyone else. However, it might be inferred from my responding post that McMahon and Trump had little to do with each other and that would be wrong, so I just wanted to set the record straight.

That would be hilarious, but I don't think there was a chance of that happening. I could be wrong about this, and someone please correct me if so, but I heard that pro wrestling is fixed.;)

It was the USFL that Trump ruined. he tried to compete straight up with the NFL. Starting over paying for talent like Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie. The USFL had a good model and some good owners. I think the Tampa bay owner was one of the leaders but he died and Trump thought he was Al davis and took the USFL down. He sued the NFL and won but his settlement was $3.00. ESPN did a 30 for 30 story on it Who Killed the USFL. You do not want Trump anywhere near the White House

I see that this is an older post but I had to comment. The fact that the OP brings up 3 different Jets head coaches , and only throws an insult at the one that brought us some decent amount of success , just proves the reason why even Jet fans hate other Jet fans.

I feel bad for the next coach to bring us a Superbowl cause he'll in all likelihood get the most amount of criticism from our "fans".

Haha. Oh snap. You got them good. Way to bring in a 23 yo stretch of a conspiracy theory against the well documented poor business practice that brought down a sports league.

    Totally not grasping at straws.

I was responding to a post about Trump and the XFL and tried my best to respond with the facts as I knew them. When I discovered there was more to it than I originally posted, I tried to update my response with the additional info. I tried to keep my personal opinion about Mr. Trump out of it as best I could. I know an election is coming up and everyone has their opinions, but I feel strongly that this forum is not the place to express them. I was a member a football forum back in '04 and saw how it deteriorated into a political ad hominem back and forth exchange that, in the end, had little to do with football. I've only been posting here for about a year, but I wouldn't want to see that happen to this board. Let's keep it focused on football.

Right over your head. My post was 99% about your post and some clarification and you took the minute snippet at the very end....wow just wow.

I appreciate the 99%, but look at what your 1% snippet triggered. Two political posts that had nothing to do with football.

Trump certainly played a role in the demise of the USFL but it was well on its way to going out of business.

Teams throughout the league over payed for players - Steve Young, Jim Kelly, Reggie White, Marcus Dupree and many more were not NJ Generals. The league was hemorrhaging money and no longer had an over the air network contract. Many teams had relocated, merged or shut down. The idea to move to the fall and go head to head was a leverage move to force a merger with the NFL. The planas pushed by trump failed, but the league was going down one way or another.

Agree, but overpaying for players was not necessarily a bad business strategy. Don't forget, the AFL overpaid for players too, and they were successful. I think the downfall for the USFL was the battle over TV rights and access to stadium venues which the USFL claimed was illegally blocked by the NFL. Trump actually won the 1/2 billion anti-trust lawsuit he filed against the NFL, but the jury only awarded him $1 in damages. That pretty much pushed the league over the cliff.

Overpaying for players was the cornerstone of the AFL's success, especially some guy from Alabama. Who could blame the USFL guys for following that lead?

For all of Woody's failures, I'll give him this: he hasn't been repeating mistakes.

    See: Maccagnan.

The most important criteria for an owner, in my opinion, is: does he want to win? Everything I've heard so far from Woody seems to indicate that he does. Nevertheless, the desire to win doesn't guarantee that you will. You have to make sure you have the right people in the right positions making decisions and sometimes that's a matter of trial and error. I think a winning culture within the organization is what separates the perennial winners from the losers. There are some teams that seem to be able to put competitive teams on the field year after year. I think that comes from having a blueprint for success and being able to pass that on to new people who join the organization when there is turnover. I think that's what's been missing from the Jets over the years; and hopefully you are right about Maccagnan being able to establish a winning culture here.

If I may so humbly remind U that this is Mac 2nd year so I think to hype him at this time is way, way, to early especially if we again drop to a under 500 record
