The funny thing is that if they really want Fitz back then they haven't really been posturing as you'd expect. They keep saying they really want him back and these others are just contingencies. If they were posturing and wanted him back they wouldn't be saying what they've been saying - they'd be trying to pressure him by setting drop dates (especially now when it's clear that absolutely no one else wants him). I think they might want him back, but they'd like to take a good look at Hack first and decide if he's a potential starter this year and if they decide Hack is then Fitz is gone. The approach they've taken with Fitz is all about patience - as long as he sign by training camp he's our starter, etc. This is almost designed to cause him to wait until training camp to sign. The benefit of having him wait is it gives the Jets time to pull the offer if they decide that Hack, Geno or Petty will be good enough. That's what I think they've been doing.

There are going to start that stupid Geno if no Fitz

Throwing Hack or Petty in there would show some stones which this CS doesn't have jus sayin

It's still all just posturing. I know from much small scale negotiations that the key is letting someone know you're interested at a certain price but you have other options available if that price/value isn't in the right range. They've set their price and essentially set a deadline of training camp. Once they made an offer, regardless of the amount, they've expressed interest so there is no point in making public statements that you're not interested. You made an offer, in this case somewhere around 10 million if I understand correctly, so to say anything other than you're interested would be blatantly disingenuous.
The Posturing is that they're okay going in to the season with Geno as the presumptive starter.

They also know that at this point the suitors for Fitz have dried up, at least those that might be willing to pony up more than the Jets current offer on the table. I mean the next most likely spot for him would be Denver, they're going in to the season with Sanchez as their current starter but they expect Paxton Lynch to hopefully be ready by 2017, if not sooner, so they're not going to ante up a multiyear deal for Fitzpatrick and I don't think they have the cap space to offer a larger one year deal than the Jets are putting on the table. But Fitz is posturing that the Jets think the Broncos might put up a multi year deal.

It's all about posturing and setting points....at this point it's which side blinks...I believe it will be Fitzpatrick.

Sorry, the easy way out is putting Petty or Hack out there this year and throwing them to the wolves....it takes stones to put Geno out there and stand by the conviction that it's better to get Geno beat up in the media and let the other two develop rather than put one of the other two out there to get shredded by fans and media. It takes stones to do what's in the best interest of the developing players and not what's going to make fans more happy in the short term.

I would have taken Hackenberg at #20 overall. Can't pass up a talent like that. 2nd Round was a steal. Heck, I may have traded up into the Top 10 to pick Hackenberg just to make sure I could secure him. Once it got to the #51 Pick and he was still there, I knew it was a done deal. The future is bright for the Jets QB position. I think Petty is going to turn out to be a solid starter/back-up too. Mac is the man!

Perhaps, but I'm still betting Fitz comes back. The Jets have the stronger position as long as Fitz isn't going to retire...I can't see him turning down 10 million in the end.

What have you seen, heard, smelled or felt that leads you to believe Petty will be anything worth even talking about?

I don't get why we didn't draft Lynch,Meanwhile he was there at 20 and the Broncos who just won a Superbowl took him after us. Darron Lee isn't gonna win us a championship,he won't even win us a Snoopy Bowl either will Hackenberg

He has all the pieces. Just needs to learn an NFL offense. I think he will.
I did not want Lynch. If he turns out great and Hackenberg turns out bad, then I guess the Jets and myself were wrong. We will see.

Yep. And that feeling got a little worse with the Hackenberg pick, but I still think Petty has potential. The Preseason is going to actually be fun this year, with getting able to see Hackenberg and see how Petty progressed from Season 1 to Season 2.
