Put chocolate on shit, call it a candy and sell it EDIT... oh wait... you're talking about QBs. Put chocolate on Geno? Does that make me racist?
someone who came from a spread offense that didn't require reading defenses... Geno was just as bad but got pushed into the role that he was clearly losing when Mark S got hurt. Also, how soon people forget how Petty played in his second Preseason game last year which was light years ahead of his initial foray.
Yeah, I mean it's great he played good against a bunch of backups, but let's temper the expectations here.
Did you guys see Brian Hoyer signed a ONE YEAR deal worth only TWO MILLION dollars with the Bears? This is a guy who played decent before the playoffs last year and had visits with the Jets and Broncos who need QB's. QB is an interesting market. Bradford can be terrible and made of glass and still make $16 million, Hoyer can lead a team to a division title but only make $2 million, Kurt Cousins can play 1 good season and make $20 million, Brock Osweiler can play a couple good games and make $18 million, so where does that put Ryan Fitzpatrick? He led the Jets to 10 wins. No playoffs though. Made $3.5 million last year. It's so hard to say. Crazy league and market.
Bears did their homework. Just like in Cleveland his numbers were really skewed. Most of his TD's came in the 4th Quarter in garbage time when they were behind.
Hoyer is a journeyman best suited for a backup role...he has no ceiling or potential and you're basically treading water with him. Texans were smart to dump Osweiler and Cousins are getting paid on potential as teams are so desperate for that young franchise QB and they have both shown flashes of that...at worst they are probably solid or average QBs Bradford I have no explanation for as to why he got that much but I guess some GMs still think he has that franchise QB potential. He's much better than someone like Hoyer though and can be an ok starter Fitzpatrick is closer to Hoyer than anyone named here...He's a little better but also older. Other teams have been laughing at his outrageous salary demands and he probably should get around 5-7 mil
Good points The only way I can figure this out is that the younger dudes Ost. Cousins, Bradford are being paid on age, celing, potential However, Houston's sample size for Brock O. is seven games...they might get ripped off paying this guy: pretty stupid imo
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 4h4 hours ago Football Outsiders projects the Jets going 6-10 this year, 7-9 if Fitzpatrick comes back
Resigning Fitz isn't about going to nor winning the Super Bowl. It's about mentoring the youngins and showing them how to be a pro. Things like how to study, how to react to highs or lows, how to deal with the shitty beat writers, etc. If the team happens to go to the playoffs this year great but the future is nigh and it does not include Fitz. Next year will be either Hack or Petty leading the team.
How to throw ints in must win scenarios...How to hamstring your team by holding out for ridiculous money. Fitz....he's a pros pro!
According to some people if Fitzpatrick doesn't start we're a 6/7 win team. So what does going 6-10, 7-9 accomplishes on a veteran team that is built to win now? If you're going to be bad this year I'd rather see what we have in Geno so we can get a definitive answer on what he is once and for all with a talented team surrounding him. You'd have a point if this was say 2013 and you just need a veteran QB to stem the tide until the young QB was ready.
