Anyone in Manhattan that likes salsa, check out rocking horse cafe on 8th Ave in Chelsea. Best salsa I've ever had. It's more of an orangish color than red; I have no idea why. Bio: I grew up in Texas.
I approve of this thread, it is indeed a tough choice. I chose the perfect guac because it is harder to perfect...The perfect salsa, well there are many types of salsa to choose from but having the right guac is top notch!
Guac all day. Really not much bad about a mashed avocado. Salsa, you can basically put any random vegetable matter into a food processor and call it salsa. Very hit or miss.
Perfect Guac.... Had it once about 15 years ago. The girl said she got it from local Wegmans, pre-packaged. Never found any other as good. Can you guys share your guacamole recipes?
Salsa? Really? Perfect guac every time. Here is the perfect recipe. Make it an hour or 2 ahead so the flavors meld. _
That's nice, but you gotta give the amounts. 1 avocado or 5? 1/2 onion? What are those leaves And what is that in the bottle and how much you use? Don't be lazy! Oh and your thing comes out almost solid, I want mine to flow a little, like salsa
Finely chop the onions, the jalapenos, dice the tomatoes first. Then add the smashed avocados, adding a little fresh squeezed lime juice as you go because the avocado will turn brown. Add the salt, pepper, cayenne and minced fresh cilantro at the end. Before you put it in the fridge, put 2 of the nuts in the guac sticking out and add a very thin layer of fresh lime juice to coat the entire top of the guac. This will prevent it from turning brown, then just mix it in before you want to eat it. _
I can see there are some people in this thread that have never tasted real salsa. Guac is good, don't get me wrong, but I've had salsa that could qualify as it's own food group.
That is beer, you drink it. Depending on how many people, you could do 3 or 4 or 5--hell I've done 8. Also depends on the size of the avocados. Make sure they are ripe but not over ripe. This isn't baking, this is cooking so there are no measurements. Probably equal amounts tomato and red onion--must be RED-- one jalapeno, FRESH cilantro, FRESH lime juice, salt pepper and cayenne to taste. One full lime, a small red onion, 5-6 cherry tomatoes, at least a tablespoon cilantro for about 3 avocados, up it from there. Experiment, by your third try you'll get it. _
