Thanks! The house we rented comes with a few kayaks and other water vessels, so I will be able to go out into the lake, but Im sure I will fish from the bank as well. You think the live bait is better than lures? I usually only fish the ocean, and rivers. Not used to lakes at all.
Monday actually looks like a nicer day to go out, no rain in the am. Staying home and eating a smoked roast and drinking wine all day sounds better than rainy morning and 17 mph winds for me too, to be honest haha. What are you going for, blackfish?
Tog are out of season so it will be anything other than Blackfish. I'm hearing winter flounder, ling and Cod are still running so that's my target. Update: Its Monday! Wifey will just have to live with the texts.. LOL
Well because they suck at stocking our lakes out here in central PA, I'm an ocean guy now myself. I would get some minnows but keep a few small jigs onhand. It still spawn for Crappie because the weather has been just cold and nasty. I would patrol the banks perhaps 15-25yds outs and toss towards the bank. Nice thing is that you can get places bankers can't. My bait bucket would have minnows, bloodworms and if you want to tangle with catfish, chicken livers. Look for the sunnier coves as the water will be warmer there.
Greetings from the Mudhole! On the Dauntless and we're on our way to the first drop. Beautiful day out here. Can't ask for flatter seas. Boat mostly empty. Maybe 18 guys. This should be a great day. Glad I took the day off!
It looked like a real nice day to be out. Lucky! How'd your trip go?I saw the new post was at 9 am on the index and thought you canceled or something haha.
Dude, it was a good day for me, not so good for a lot of folks. THE OE & PARAMOUNT didn't have enough people so we all wound up on the Dauntless. Good to see all the boats (except the Mohawk) work together. The only other boat out was the Miss Belmar. Those with the experience yesterday caught fish. 9 Ling, 2 Blackfish (tossed), 3 Seabass (1 nice blueback female that somehow wound up in my cooler. ) Front came through around 2pm. Got real windy and choppy but I managed to put 2 more Ling in the cooler. I saw proof that fish hit before the front on a falling barometer. Happened yesterday almost as if scripted. Once the front passed, things shutdown although the pool winner (Cod) was caught . 18 people on the Dauntless made it lots of fun.
That's awesome, I'm glad you were able to put some fish in the box. If anyone is going to find ling, it's the Dauntless haha. It is pretty cool that the captains were able to put a trip together for everyone. It comes as no surprise the Mohawk wasn't involved though. They definitely do their own thing. Sometimes those throwbacks sneak back over the rail and stowaway in your cooler after you toss them back. It's like they've had a glimpse of life in the air and want to come home with you or something. You're a good guy to save a refugee like that...oh.... you killed it and ate it...I see.
been fishing inshore from the yak lately with mixed results..... did take my brother out for a few hours when he came down for a quick visit last tuesday. Caught a 4/5lb trout on a Zman shrimp..... Just got an invite to fish a buddy that doesnt have a charter tomorrow. word is that sizeable mahi are in surprisingly close for us. we'll see
Seen a kayak in Cabelas today that cost almost $3k. I was like: "where's the motor?"... Good to see the fishing season starting up again down your way Stink. As you can see, I'm just getting warmed up here. Good luck Tomorrow! Keep us posted... Fish On!!
yeah, some of those kayaks (Hobie Pro-angler) get a little crazy........ Well, a fun day on the water. We released a sailfish and caught 6 King Mackerel (Kingfish), our limit for the 3 of us.
Now you're talkin! Sailfish and 6 kings? Well Done!! Mother nature is having another shitfit up here. Multiple cold fronts passing thru giving perhaps a 2 day fishing window before it shuts down for the next front. I got the week after Memorial Day off and I'm thinking about rescheduling it because of the forecast that week. Oh yeah, I'm using that Solunar Chart site you gave me as well as an eye on the barometer. Can't get both a good lunar cycle AND a rising/steady barometer to sync but hope springs eternal. Fish On!!
also a bonito...... unfortunately brojke off 2 studly fish that were most likely Cobia based on their behavior it was pretty awesome that the 1st line in the water went screamin as a sail jumped by the boat. We had a later start as it was hard to net bait, but I said that meant the fishing would be on fire... I guess I was right
I guess my buddy whacked em again today...... gonna fire up the smoker on sunday (they taste like bluefish ) I've been saving some branches from the tangerine and grapefruit trees for the smoker though
