John Idzik circa 2014 says hello. Our Opinions are worth more than the F.O.. ..... Ask Champ, we haven't been to the big one since the 60's. Somebody is screwing the pooch, and it's not the fans!!!!!!!

I think the most interesting thing about this pick is what it shows about the Jets draft process. This front office's board is not generally based on how good the players are generally perceived to be by the various pundits, but the value they think they'll have in particular in Bowles' system. Their first round pick (Lee) and this pick were both heavily criticized because a lot of the draft pundits didn't view them as highly as the jets picked them. However, both of these guys could be very good performers in Bowles' system for the jets. These picks show that the Jets front office and their coaching staff are very well integrated and making these decisions together. Gone are the days when the Jets draft (or sign via free agency) a great zone corner to play in a predominantly man to man system.

I would be better than Hillary or Trump. First law would be flat tax and then we would stop aid to ALL foreign countries with any ties to terrorists.

Or it could theoretically show that the front office is clueless (not that I think they are).

As a jets fan for many years, I have all too much experience with clueless front offices. This feels different to me - they're picking specifically people that they believe have the skill set to thrive in Bowles' system. If they were picking people that were not highly regarded and don't seem to have the skill set to thrive in Bowles' system (Dexter McDougall?), then it would be different. Worst case the Jets might be overdrafting some player who would be available in a later round, but I don't think they are generally doing that.

I think they picked Lee because they felt he would be the best fit for their defense (and I think he will be) and plenty of people had Lee going around 20 or so, so he may not have been a "bargain" but he seems to have been picked roughly where some pundits had him going. I don't think he would have been around for them late in the 2nd round. He was a controversial pick, but not as much as their 2nd round pick.

I think they took Hack in the 2nd round because word out of Houston was that they might take him with their third or 4th round pick. The Jets third round pick was generally viewed as a solid pick.

Once you get to 4th round you're much more in crapshoot territory, so it's hard to really criticize this pick or any of their later picks with the exception of Shell where you have the criticism that you gave up a 4th round pick next year to get this year 5th round pick. Seems like a high price to pay unless you have Shell rated very highly, likely a potential starter. I bet that Shell was rated that highly on the jet's board. Throw that in with their need at tackle and it might be a good trade.

I believe they didn't have a 5th to give up this year so they only gave up next year's 4th.

My mistake. I thought they had a 5th, but no 6th, but you're correct they had neither a 5th nor a 6th (the 5th went for Marshall I think and the 6th went for Fitz). That makes the trade for Shell make much more sense.
