Let's be serious about this. Having Fitzpatrick back this season would be a big win for the Jets. Not a Super Bowl trip but a lot of pressure off the team to play somebody else probably not capable of leading the team effectively at this point. Bringing him back at $8M a year is a win for both sides. I'd argue that giving him a 2 year deal with $8M guaranteed on an $8M a year deal would be a big win. The Jets have some guys now that maybe they can develop into a starting NFL QB and/or a tradeable asset if they get some cover so they can make that happen. Whether the team can find the cap space to sign Fitzpatrick is not clear but if they can it's most likely in everybody's best interest that they do so.
They must have a betting line in Vegas that pays 100 to 1 if the Jets go offense in round 1. Ridiculous
But there is a good chance we say bye to our playoff chances in 2016 without him. He's an average QB, but the Jets don't usually have guys who play even average at the position. You see how good we can be when we get even average QB play. Why take a chance on an unknown like Hack or Petty or somebody who has failed more often than not in Geno when we don't have to. We've seen how productive Fitz can be in this offense, he shouldn't be paid what he wants, but $5 million/1 year is a low ball offer.
Then he should just retire. By that logic, what's the point in having an extra $15 or $16 million if he doesn't have his health.
Cutting Breno and Folk gives them around $6.5mm add in the excess after signing rooks and its around $8mm for Fitz. Take it or cya! Is Fitz's production (even at last years level) that much better than what they'd get from geNO with geNo knowing this year will be a showcase for potential suitors in 2017? It's highly questionable whether Fitz is worth $8 imho and for the $12-14mm he seems to want no F'king way to I pay him that. I'd rather roll with geNO for this year. The comments I've read and heard about on the radio regarding confidence in geNo are worrisome and can't be taken lightly but that doesn't mean you just pay Fitz what he wants.
I can say I don't own any of those teams jerserys. But if I did it doesn't make me anyless of a Jets fan. It all about style.
$5m for a starting QB is a slap in his face, even if he is 33. I'm not saying give him $15, but $5m is ridiculously low for a guy that threw 31 TDs last year and fits well with the system. I'd be okay with 10-12m with incentives. I was hoping we'd get Hoyer for cheaper, but now he's off the market so the options are limited. Say no to Fitz, and it's another year likely tanking with Geno wasting Brandon Marshall / Revis / Mangold 's windows to win.
I'd have no problem with that. We need to replace Breno anyway. Plus, you never know, another vet could get cut during TC and we could upgrade at the position then.
You could convert Mangold's base salary and bonuses to a signing bonus and free up 4.5 million. Next year is the last year of his contract and it seems very unlikely we'll cut him.
True but I wouldn't mention it or show a pic in this forum. Besides (IMO) there is anything stylish about those 2 jersey's.
I wouldn't post any pictures of me on a message board. I think that's so lame. But that's just my opinion.
i would use the carolina panther method: if he says he won't sign, pull the $7 million offer off the table and wish him well in his next job. roll with the other 3 guys unless some veteran gets cut later on before the regular season starts. you already saw his upside, which was 10 wins with a weak schedule, and two losses to the bills. no playoffs. and, if they had made it, a first game exit was in the cards.
