I didn't say that Gailey drafted Hack or any other player. Where in the heck did that come from? That's a straw man argument. I'm sure that Mac has a pretty good idea of how much longer Gailey will be around, and asked for his input, however, as to whether Gailey thought Hack would be a good fit in Gailey's system and if Gailey thought he could fix Hack. He'd have been stupid not to talk with Gailey about it since he knows more about QBs than anyone else associated with the team, and he would be the person responsible (along with the QB Coach for molding/fixing Hack. I think that Gailey will be around for another year at least, and possibly 2-3 more. That should be more than enough to fix Hack and finish developing Petty. What does your last phrase (it's not even a sentence) even mean? You must have been very tired or distracted when you responded, because your response makes zero sense.
One thing I will say about Petty is that he seems to always be hanging out with Mangold and other O-Linemen. Good look to have the guys protecting you as friends lol
Not sure where this "great QB developer" comes from, could you name the QBs Gailey developed? Look at Elway, had 19 TDs and 13 INTs in 86, 19 TDs and 12 INTs in 87, Gailey gets there in 88 and the next 3 seasons Elway goes 17/19, 18/18, 15/14. One year with Tomczak, 55.45 completions, 15 TDs and 17 INTs. Next year Kordell Stewart 53.6% completions with 188 yards a game. He may have had a couple that had good seasons under him but there was never any transformation, never a QB that went from crap to top of the league under Gailey. Fitz was familiar with Gailey's system, had a very good supporting cast and has been in the league for long enough that his game has improved somewhat through the years. That was why he put up the numbers he did last year.
4Qb's going into TC is a recipie for controversy. I thought this FO/CS was going about things quietly but its almost as if they boxed themselves into a bit of a corner. Can't go into the season w/o a vet QB and can't sign Fitz to a reasonable deal. Can't count on Geno but Petty ain't reddy.. Draft Hack and stack the roster with 2 not ready QB's, one shaky former starter and an vet that wants too much money/years as we really don't know besides the cash what the hold up is. Not how I envisioned year 2 of the new regime but I'm willing to see how this shakes out. Carrying 4 QB's seems like a waste of 1 roster spot better served by another backup linesman be it on offense or defense. Time will tell I guess..
There won't be a controversy, bowles knows how to handle this. Decisive actions and short,to the point comments to the media. If fitz doesn't re-sign geno will be qb1 until he shouldn't be. End of story. Cimini and manish will try to make more of it, but bowles will keep it squashed.
If anything can't we just send Petty to the practice squad? I dont see why cutting Geno is so high on yalls priority list. IF Fitz re-signs i'd rather have Geno as his back up than Petty or Hack. This is Geno's final year i don't think he's going anywhere
Possibly, and I've seen quite a few people thinking this. It could just be that they are thinking along the lines of draft a QB until you know you have one, which seems like a pretty smart idea IMO. Not knowing that Petty is the answer at QB and Petty not being ready are two different things, obviously.
I'm thinking they said that to let Fitz know they still want him back. If they said they are still wanting Fitz back but would only be going with 3 QBs then you might have a pissed off QB on the roster if Fitz does not come back.
He may not seem like he has much value but I would think there are multiple teams that would snatch him up as a 3rd QB to see if he pans out. There are too many teams who currently have an UDFA as their #3 QB, one of them would pick him up and cut their current #3. Not worth the risk if the coaching staff thinks he has some potential.
