I know i shouldn't feel this way, because you should never rush a QB's development (as if we havent seen that happen twice recently) ... but i really want a QB comp with our younger guys. Yeah i know Fitz is supposedly the safer option but for some reason i had in my mind that Fitz will NOT duplicate last year or even close to it. I kinda wanna see Bryce Geno and Hack battle it out.. and may the best man win.

Geno may have the best natural ability at QB of the 3.. can throw downfield, has touch on his passes (wheter or not it goes to the right team is a diff. story), can run with some elusiveness, and he has experience..

Bryce... idk what he may be the best at.. he seems the furthest away from being our starter, Mac and staff makes it seem like a pro-offense is still a foreign language to him.

Hack is the smartest of the bunch. He can make pre-snap adjustments! ****MAJOR KEY TO FITZ'S SUCCESS LAST YEAR! THOSE WOBBILY DUCK BALLS WERE NOT FALLING IN WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS HANDS FOR NOTHING****. He for SURE has the arm power. Accuracy is kinda weak and footwork is too but they can both be fixed before the season even starts.. more so the footwork. He also has experience in a pro-style offense. Also has the highest ceiling of the 3.

So which one you throwing out there in 2016 if Fitz isn't signed?

I'm going to roll with Geno on a short ass leash! 6-8 games to let him get his act together. First few games are brutal so i'm not expecting too much in those, but you gotta win some too!

If Fitz isn't re-signed, then I think Geno should definitely be the starter. I know that would have a lot of posters and much of the fanbase up in arms, but I think that is preferable to having to trade a pick for McCown or some other JAG vet. We're already down one pick for next year. I don't want to have to give up any more draft picks. If Geno could get us through at least half the season, Petty or Hack may be ready to take over by then. Mac has said that Geno was playing well last year until Ik punched him and said he played well in the Oakland game. He'll still make his share of mistakes, but by this point, may be able to play well enough to overcome those mistakes and the team still win.

    Tough question.

Geno...can't see him being here after this season. He'd have to have a season of legend to get another contract from the Jets. Anything in the average range will see him go to the highest bidder, and someone would overpay. Still, it could make the most sense to start him if Hackenberg needs more time.

Hack...I can see him as the starter at some point. The question is when. If he severely outplays the others in camp then he should start. If it's close, I'd let him sit.

Petty...from what TB and Mac say, it seems he's just not there yet as it pertains to reading an NFL defense. No chance they go with someone like that. He would need to make huge strides in camp and preseason. Possibly Rattliff 2?

Like you, I'd start with Geno initially, and if the team goes south quickly, and the OL is holding its own, I'd see what
    Hackenberg can do.

You don't have to like it to read the writing on the wall and deal with the reality.

    agreed 1000%.

Wanna throw a too-early prediction for our record under Geno out there??? say he plays the whole 16 games.

I'd say 8-8 :-/ , even though we've seen a less experienced Geno go 8-8 with a wayyyy worse team.. sad Geno hasn't even been blessed to play with our GOOD defenses over the years... in fact he played with the worst 2 defenses since the rex era began lol.

Geno strikes me as the type of player to play lights out in a contract year and then never be good again, so we have that going for us

If Fitz isn't back Geno should be the starter. DO NOT ruin Hackenberg like every other young QB we've had in the past decade. I'm still under the impression Petty is a long-term project with best case scenario is him turning into a solid backup that could spot start so when discussing Geno or McCown or whoever else nobody else wants it's Geno every time. He may still make dumb decisions and he may not regardless he will be throwing to Marshall, Decker, Smith, Amaro, Forte, Powell, etc.. as opposed to Stephen Hill and Chaz Schillens.

I think if Petty is the starter this year he would put up much better numbers than Geno's rookie year. Reasons include, Petty is smarter, he will be working with better weapons, Chan will provide a better gameplan for Petty, Petty is just as athletic and has as good an arm, and did I mention Petty is smarter?

TB said Geno would be the starter if Fitz is not re-signed, I'm sure there would be an open competition during training camp but I don't see either of the rookies beating out Geno this year.

Not because I didn't like the pick. That was before it went viral over the kid.

Hackenberg would also get to see Fitzpatrick's mistakes and the cost attached to them. In many ways Fitzpatrick is the perfect QB for a young QB to learn from. He has the leadership skills necessary to lead the team and he also has some teaching moments both good and bad on the field. Watching Fitz get hit hard on a run is something that every young QB should see. Sliding is fundamental and even a good leader can hurt his team by taking chances on the run.

Definitely, and how to play pinochle for profit. And how to take the offensive linemen out for a steak now and then or to a hockey game or both. And how to manage the media in the NY/NJ metro area, which Fitzpatrick did better than any QB since Chad Pennington.
