That's when he's punting rugby style, when he punts regular he takes the standard amount steps.

Odell is probably my favorite non Jets player, it'd be pretty cool to have his cousin here. He looks like beast and RB is probably his future. He seems to be a pretty cool, I know he it must get a little annoying being simply referred to as his cousin. I legit can't wait for pre season... And I never watch preseason.

Preseason football games at the Meadowlands are awesome.

No pressure, beautiful August Saturday night, sunset, great weather, no drunken dickbags fighting in the stands, get to watch all the rooks and backups to see who might possibly have a chance.

Folks complain that we're forced to buy preseason tix but I love going to those games.

Ive never been to a Jet game (sad i know) i live in the Miami area so i actually don't have an excuse lol i swore to myself I'm going to Dolphin home game in Nov but i actually did want to go up to NY this summer 3rd preseason game is at Metlife against Giants so that'll actually be the best game to go to pre season wise. Ive actually just talked myself into it I'm going to that game too.

Heh, only time I've ever seen the Jets live was way back when Namath was still playing, saw him I think in 1968 in Kansas city, Maynard had 2 TD catches in that game....that's the where I became a jets fan.....

If one's draft decision making criteria is based soley on which of the two players is likely to make a greater contribution next season, that would in effect be tantamount to saying that the Packers drafting of Aaron Rodgers in 2005 was a total waste of a first round pick (particularly since he didn't become a full time player/starter until his third year on the team). It is extremely rare for rookie QBs to "make a difference" their first year. Also, with all due respect, comparing the future value and difference making impact of a Punter to a QB doesn't make a whole lot of sense. In the meantime, anyone who tries to grade any QB draft pick while seriously counting on that QB to be significant difference maker his rookie season has wholly unrealistic expectations...

Rodgers was in many minds the best QB in the draft that year. If Smith didnt go 1st , Rodgers would've and Smith would've been the one waiting in the draft room. So not the best comparison IMO. Nobody was taking Hackenberg before any of the first 3 QB's that were taken and nobody had him ranked as high as they did Rodgers in 2005.

I've said it a million times , were a win now team , win now teams dont make those moves. They target players that are going to come in from Day 1 and be a factor. Plus there's a good chance that everything Hackenberg learns from Gailey wont mean much considering Gailey might not be here when Hack finally gets his shot. Also the entire offense around him will most likely be retired/on the downside on their career once he gets his chance at starter.

And he's already proven at Penn State that he cant be the type of QB that carries an offense. He needs everything perfect around him to succeed.

Seeing how we're a win now team, what you have done differently? I like Fitz but he had a career year last season and can't be counted on to deliver the consistency needed to take us to the SB (provided, of course, we succeed in re-signing him).
None of the QBs selected ahead of Hackenberg can be counted on to be ready as "win now" prospects either. Short of trading for a top veteran, I don't see any other solution towards fulfilling a "win now" roster strategy. Our defense is still quite young with one or two exceptions.

Lastly, I respectfully but very strongly disagree with your opinion that he is not the type of QB who can carry an offense and that he needs everything around him to be perfect in order to succeed. I find that statement to be utterly baseless and without foundation. As with everything, of course, only time will tell......

I would've tried everything in my power to trade back , or trade up for a guy that can make an immediate impact. And if we want any shot of competing next year we have to resign Fitz. If we were going through a rebuild I could understand every argument against not bringing him back. But without him we're probably a 6 or 7 win team , that isnt bad enough for anything to change come 2017.

There's a different between needing to carry an offense, and having you and me blocking for him, with Abyzmul out there at splitend trying to reel in passes. His supporting cast was horrible, and he'll never seen anything near that in the NFL.

Kevin Patullo looks to be the guy that is learning from Gailey and will take over when Gailey retires (and you're right, I can't see Gailey coaching more than another 3 seasons). It's good to potentially see a young quarterback and a young assistant grow together.

We're in theory a win-now team, but isn't everyone? There are too many good pieces in place for this team to endure a Jacksonville-esque rebuild in which they completely clean house, but we are missing a quarterback that can win in the playoffs, now and in the future. Hackenberg is supposed to fill the role as the future signal caller.

If a team sees potential in a guy to become a top 15 quarterback in the league, I'd be furious with my franchise if they didn't draft him. The hope in drafting any quarterback in the first two rounds is that they become that.

The offense is going to see a major overhaul in talent next year in the draft and free agency. Cut Revis, Harris, and restructure Skrine's money into bonus' and we have near $50 million in cap space next offseason.

    2017 Free Agents
    Wide Receivers

    Alshon Jeffery
    Emmanuel Sanders
    Michael Floyd
    Keenan Allen

    Tackles
    Cordy Glenn
    Marcus Cannon
    Andre Smith

    Guards/Centers
    Kevin Zeitler
    Larry Warford
    Chance Womack
    David DeCastro
    Ronald Leary
    TJ Lang
    Josh Sitton

I fully expect us to make a big play on one of the wide receivers if they make it to free agency. It's also one of the better interior lineman free agent classes in a while. The defense is young, and the offense will see a lot of new faces via free agents and draftees to build with Hackenberg.

Let me ask you. Who are we drafting in the 2nd round that puts us over the top to become a true win now team? At some point you need to take your quarterback of the future and commit to developing him.

Well I've said before that the only reason I only dislike the Hack pick and not hate it , was because the two guys I wanted the team to target (Jarran Reed and Nick Martin) we're taken directly before we picked Hack.

So there was no one taken in picks 51 on that I really wanted. But I think an olineman would've helped out. Same with trading up for someone instead of failing to trade back.

We were competitive in 15/16 games last year--I'll take that again as it was the best season in years.

Yeah, in 3 years..since we went to the title game. Still couldn't win won against our old coach though, could we? Or make the playoffs so it was just another wasted season. And if you think after that pansy schedule we have any chance of winning 10 games this year you're dreaming.

Sadly we don't have the powderpuff schedule we had last year. Last year the Jets had, if I recall, the 2nd easiest SOS at the end of the season, their opponents were a combined 113-143 for a winning percentage of .441.

now you can almost never say for certain if an upcoming year will be for sure more difficult or less difficult than the previous season. I said almost, you can pretty much rest assured when you had the easiest schedule the prior year that the upcoming year is going to be more difficult. You can also pretty much be assured it's not going to be a cakewalk when your non divisional opponents in the upcoming season are the Bengals, Chiefs, Seahawks, Cardinals, Colts (all probable playoff contenders) plus The Steelers who you never really know how good they'll be, and the Ravens (not sure how good they'll be this year either). The Browns and Rams (knock on wood) appear to be the only 'easy' games on the schedule this year and the browns, if RGIII makes a comeback, could be very good, or they could be very bad...again, most likely.

Fitzpatrick put up his career year against a very weak schedule. Jets are a good team, very good in some aspects....they'll need to be to break over .500 this year...but one things for certain, unless those teams all have a collapse in play this year the Jets will have to have earned every win they get this year...so if they to go 10-6 or 11-5 no one will be able to say 'weak schedule'.
