That guy is maddening. I wish someone would take the asinine question marks off of the title also. Smfh
None of us should be too high or too low on any of these players because it's all just a total crap shoot no matter where they're picked.
Most people haven't "studied" this draft. They read a few mocks from so called experts, and form their opinions from that. They then proceed to judge our draft, based on who we picked where, realtive to said mocks. I dont know where you fall in to this, but even if you have actually "studied" anything, to sit here and think your opinions are worth more than the Jets brass is laughable.
some of us watch alot of college football. that were my opinions on these guys come from. some guys i havent watched and then just say i know nothing about the guy. like burris. but when you watch the guys play all year, you get a decent idea. there is always the college to pro thing tough to predict but i mean you watched the jets all year. you know that quigley is a bum, cro was toast, marhsall was a stud, pryor improved, etc... you also know other teams we play well... you know gronk and edelman, you know suh busted, etc
I preferred draft day much better back in the day when we all had less outlets and we acknowleged that we didn't know anything. When the Jets took a 4th round corner: it was "anybody know anything about him? Jets Confidential says he was a 3 year starter I guess." now everyone with an internet connection is an expert on later round prospects because they read a few blogs and rankings. I find it hard to believe anyone who is critical of 4th and 5th round picks has actually scouted the players in question
Don't be surprised if he doesn't work @ CB he adds a few lbs. and gets moved to safety... But he does have that Cromartie type frame and Might just slip right in...
Of course, but watching the jets, pats, etc is very different than college. Those players are already in the nfl. Most nfl teams run similar systems. We dont have to "guess" as to how they will translate to the nfl game like college players. I watch TONS of college football. More than the nfl by alot. And i couldnt tell u much about half these guys. So anyone sitting here with an opinion on an OL taken in the 5th round really makes me scratch my head a bit...
100%. There are posters here who have never seen a player play but now profess to "watch tape" on said player and Gruden and some internet breakdown and have become overnight experts, lecturing everyone with their breadth of knowledge gleaned from said "tape" and draft guides. Some of us watched them play and formed independent opinions. Kind of an eyeball test. I don't watch them all I watch mostly ACC, SEC and Big 10 football. But I especially like watching the top QBs. I like to see if their talents jump off the field at me. Like Carr and Teddy and Mariota. Winston weirded me out a bit. Hated everything about Geno and EJ and that whole class. Loved Petty. I'm not watching tape or reading draft guides, it's just a gut feeling. To be honest I couldn't tell you anything about Burris or our WR in the 7th or that tackle Shell. I wouldn't be so arrogant to read a draft guide or watch a YouTube video then proclaim expertise and chastise others for their opinions--as if I knew better. That's what the draft does to us I guess. _
yeah i love when guys here are like "i studied the tape" as if every school is sending them reels of all22 film or something. youtube highlights are pretty worthless. aside from the angle(which is enormous, now that we can get the NFL all22 film it makes a big difference, you curse a guy on sunday, watch the all22 monday and realize it wasnt his fault) it doesnt show you every play and you can make anyone look good or bad with a 5 minute clip. But if you are watching a few teams all of their games or watching all of a few conferences games you learn quick who is REALLY good and who is REALLY bad and all of a guys major flaws or major skills shine through over the course of 10 or 12 games. like i said above, every jet fan new vlad ducasse was a turnstyle just watching this team on sundays. we didnt need to be pro scouts to see that. we didnt need to be long time nfl head coach coaches to know that quigley sucked as a punter or that dom davis couldnt stay with runningbacks in coverage. the only variable is really how it translates to the NFL, which is really guesswork even for pro scouts.
Yup. Watched most of Mariota's games and pretty much every time I was wowed. Same thing with Teddy. I picked up Carr early his last season and was incredibly impressed with his command of that offense and his arm and accuracy. Same thing with Petty. I actually was down on him a bit after the WVU game but he bounced back and I watched the rest of his games and was wowed. Never been wowed by Hack and I watched a lot of PSU games. I was at his first ever game against Cuse with my son's best friend (a PSU student) and his parents and they were raving about how great this freshman was going to be and I was underwhelmed. But I guess all this "tape" and the "experts" are explaining away all his issues so we're all good. No longer need to be skeptical based on what we actually saw. _
I really liked our first two picks in Lee & Hackenberg although i knew/know nothing about this Burris kid. Only from what I've read/seen & heard he's a tall/lanky CB, strong in press coverage and very aggressive. That's pretty much all i can comment on with regards to our selection of Burris. What I've learned over the years, is that sometimes the early round picks with lots of hype such as Milliner never live up to expectations while these mid-round prospects put on their hard cap, get to work under the radar & develop into gems or at least productive role players within a scheme. I'm pulling for this kid especially after Cromartie's departure; a tall/aggressive CB could very well be needed at times against taller WR's (especially within the red zone). Hopefully we see some flashes of smart play from Burrus although with the likes of Revis, Buster & Williams i wouldn't expect to see too much of Burris throughout his rookie season. What I'm truly counting on regarding our CB's are for A.) Revis being Revhile completely shutting down opposing #1's. B ) Williams solidifying our #2 spot opposite of Revis on the outside while riding the momentum & experience gained from last year. At the age of only 24-25 this Marcus Williams kid really stood out & impressed many of us at times last season. With another year under Bowles defense I'm expecting big things out of Williams. C.) Buster breaking out into a house-hold name. Kid is strong. Aggressive. Hits very hard & more importantly is ideal in the nickel against shifty/quick receivers; i haven't enjoyed a nickel back as much as i did Skrine since dating back to Ray Mickens. A trio of Revis, Williams & Skrine having added experience/chemistry together should be scary for opposing QB's & last but not least D.) Dee Milliner staying off the inactive list. Feels like I've been telling myself for 10+ years now but if Milliner could actually stay healthy we could have another 1st round talent contributing to our secondary. I just don't know what it is, just seems as if he's always getting dinged up with setback after setback. The writing appears to be on the wall unless Dee stays 100% healthy he's gone come the offseason but damn after letting go of Cromartie wouldn't it just be nice to see what we have in Dee? I really pray for the sake of our secondary that Milliner can stay healthy because if so a dime-package of Revis, Williams, Buster & Milliner (with Pryor roaming at S) has a load of potential.
I'm no expert by any means but I like draftbreakdown because it goes through each and every throw. No doubt it's not NFLall 22 film, but there's 0 bias which at least can help sway your opinion of a player you like to watch. Youtube highlights are worthless.
I met him at Hofstra and he became an all time favorite. I was sad as hell when we didn't re-sign him and he moved on
