Mac has a lot of failed trade attempts in the draft. It seems like in both of his drafts, several stories have come out after the fact that he tried to trade up or down. The reality is trading down is probably explored at every pick. Not sure what value there is in reporting it.
Yes, Mac said as much. The reason I reported it is as I stated in my initial post that some posters complained that Mac should have tried to trade down for Hack, for Lee and just in general to get more picks. They obviously were unaware that Mac made an effort to trade down. I was trying to educate them.
No, I can't. And you can't either. No one outside the organization or Fitzpatrick's camp can do that so all we get is guesswork. Repeating someone else's guessing is pointless. We don't know the offer; we don't know the demand. Basing future projections on guesswork is a waste of time. I might give him nine, but that doesn't mean the Jets would and it doesn't mean he'd take it (but I'd bet he would.)
If you remove speculation from the equation, there's not much to talk about in the offseason. You are correct though, in that we don't know the numbers. Hell, a deal could already be done and they're simply dragging things out for a bit of press coverage. I suspect Fitz might be asking for too much, though, because otherwise...at least in theory...a deal would be done. I doubt he's holding out for less money. Mac put a dollar value on Fitz. I support whatever dollar value that is because in my opinion, Fitz is not the future. If he signs, great, lock and load and mentor the guys behind you. Otherwise, enjoy retirement/moving again, Fitz.
Guys with all due respect, I can def see where Stokes is coming from. He is going with the eye test. Well, the eye test of Hackenberg is fucking terrible. Once you can accept the context around PSU, then you can see past the eye test. It's fucking tough to do. But I am buying in, just like another poster said, I can't continue to be cynical. It's unrewarding. I'm not talking about being blindly sunshine, I just mean lets see what happens! Also, the Jets haven't been QB whispers, going on history. So I get the cynicism.

I think Fitz is just posturing, it's most likely his last big payday and he's trying to get the most he can with what leverage his very good season last year provides him. But the reality is he'll be 34 this season and overall his career has been rather average (overall, some real peaks, some real valleys). At the end of the day he'll sign with the Jets for somewhere between 7-9 million this year. He's just hoping the Jets panic or another team rushes in post draft with a desperate offer...and it could happen, but probably not.
This coming from someone who tells everyone else how they should think and how Petty is the 2nd coming.....despite 102 previous picks passing on him. I'm not saying Hack will be a great starter in the NFL, or even an average one. They're not first round picks for a reason. But to actively dismiss him because we have petty, a player who was passed over 102 times (many of those by teams needing a staring or backup QB) is a pretty weak argument as well. The simple reality is until someone show something real on the field in the regular season on a fairly consistent basis then all of them are just potential, nothing more.
To be fair I don't think even Seattle knew what they had in Wilson until camp. They knew his potential, I just don't think they thought he'd reach it so quickly...sometimes you hit on a mid round QB, they hit.
There's an old NFL adage. A rookie comes in to camp all high about his college career. The veteran replies, that's great kid, but you're in the NFL now and your college career means jack shit. It's all about what you do now. The NFL is littered with never was players who had great college careers.
Theoretically is that not where we are right now? Solid QB play from any of the 3 (or 4) qbs and the sky is the limit for the Jets
Yes, but the question is did the Jets win the lottery on any of them? Seahawks hit the lottery and got their star QB. The Jets are the same way as the Seahawks in the same way that I'm the same as someone else who bought a lottery ticket, we're both holding potential in our hands (draft) but our situations might be totally different after the numbers are drawn. In a sense right now the Jets are holding 3 lottery tickets, 2 new lottery tickets and one older lottery ticket that's in the 'second drawing' for previous losing tickets. The question remains, in 3 years are we holding 3 losing tickets or do we have one (or more) winning tickets? time will tell.
