I don't think I am. As you stated, the aptitude to learn quickly is one thing, but imo putting that knowledge to use in the right ways on the football field is football IQ. It's not just enough that a QB knows the offense, knows possible plays to audible to, but he has to be able to read the D, make a split second decision, and then pick the right play out of a number of possibilities. If that's not football IQ, then I don't know what the heck else you'd call it.
Yeah, that's a good reason too. I would think TB & Mac would feel the same way. We can compete with Fitz and maybe be in position to get in the tournament again. Unless he seriously has retirement on his mind it seems like a great situation for him. You gotta think he's thinking about that too. I get the impression he loves the camaraderie, and the competition also.

According to Bleacher Report Mac said in same espn interview: "he does not want to rule out CH playing in 2016" wow. It better for him to sit and develop but it depends on situation and how he learns in camp Adam Schefter says Fitz would rather sit out the year than take 7 or 8 mil. With Ryan Fitzpatrick still unsigned, the Jets' quarterbacks are currently ex-starter Geno Smith, second-year pro Bryce Petty, and rookie Christian Hackenberg, whom the Jets drafted in Round 2 last weekend. The Jets picked Smith in Round 2 in 2013 and Petty in Round 4 last year. So how does Hackenberg's scouting profile out of college compare to Smith's and Petty's? ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay addressed that question Monday during a conference call with reporters. McShay believes Hackenberg has the highest upside of the trio, but also has the biggest problems with accuracy coming out of college. Kiper has said the Jets should avoid trying to start Hackenberg in 2016, because it could hurt him. Here's more of what Kiper had to say: "For me, they were all completely different. The Baylor offense [that Petty played in] is going to prevent you from being a factor for a while. Bryce Petty is a big, strong-armed quarterback with some athletic ability. But he needed time. Geno Smith had that stride. Not the delivery, but the length of his stride was going to create problems in the pocket. You can't have that. I thought they needed to tweak that with Geno Smith. It's not surprising that he ran into a few issues along the way. "[Hackenberg] sets up with Bill O'Brien [at Penn State] and had a very good freshman year [in a pro-style offense]. Since that time [when O'Brien left for the Texans], he's deteriorated, because of the offensive line's inability to protect. He doesn't deal with [pass-rush] pressure well. His body language at times wasn't what you wanted to see. He didn't have big-time receivers. There were a lot of issues with that offense beyond him. But you can't excuse it all away and say, 'Well, it's because Bill O'Brien wasn't there.' The happy medium was [to] get him in the second round, try to recreate him." And here's what McShay said: "Looking back, I had a second-round grade on Geno, a second-round grade on Hackenberg, and a fourth-round grade on Petty. Petty had the best leadership and football character of all these guys. It's not a negative to anybody. It's just that his was off the charts. He came from a system that didn't translate very well. Geno came from a system that did not translate perfectly, and he had a lot of adjusting to do. "Whereas Hackenberg has played in more of a pro-style system. Geno had some mechanical issues that had to be worked out, but was a little bit more accurate than Hackenberg. It all comes down to the accuracy. I think from a mental standpoint, [Hackenberg] improved with his decision making. He's got the size that you look for. He can handle everything that you throw at him mentally. But can he get his footwork to a point where he's consistent with it, he relies on it, he believes in it, and he really fits and regains his confidence as a passer? "Ultimately, that's it. Who knows where Petty is? I don't know what they think of him to this point. I think he has a lower ceiling than Hackenberg. Ultimately, Hackenberg probably, from the pro-style system, with his skill set, has the greatest upside of the group. But he's the furthest away in terms of accuracy, of those three quarterbacks, when it comes to leaving school at their respective times." Do you agree with what Kiper and McShay said? im down with what westhoff said on SNY. i over fitz if he doesnt want to come back, and im even ready to turn the page if he does want to come back. im really not clamoring over a journeyman glorified backup who couldnt get us to the playoffs in a career year with a weak schedule. Let hackenberg player... gauge it in the preseason, if he looks good, throw him in and let him start. ivve always been of the idea the best way to develop is with live onfield reps. if he struggles you sit him for a while and try it again later in the year or next year or let him play through the struggles. we have 3 young quarterbacks.... that SCREAMS rebuild regardless of what older talent we have on this roster. lets start seeing which of these guys can play

In 2009 we went to the playoffs with, according to this board, the worst rookie QB, worst HC who was also a rookie, worst OC and players assembled by the worst GM ever. Why can't we make the playoffs in 2016?

Lol--this is what I SEE after watching him for three years. I guess the excuses have convinced everyone. Besides, none of us are any more "informed" than anyone else--none of us are pro scouts or player personnel types. I don't read the magazines to form opinions. _
The Jets will attempt to remain competitive and win games. I don't think the door is shut on Fitz by any means, and I think we can be a competitive team even with Geno Smith at the helm. It's gonna be OK bud!

Was it a rebuild when the Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson and were determined to get their answer at QB? They had a mix of young and old talent too. This isn't a rebuild. No doubt, time to see who can play and who cannot play, but this isn't a rebuild.
