Obviously, all players must have been available when we were on the clock. Here's mine: 1. Treadwell --BPA IMO 2. Whitehair--after a brilliant move by GB grabbing Spriggs at 48, settle for Whitehair 3. Jenkins--would have considered Fackrell but ultimately gone with Jenkins 4. Beavers 7. Matakevich--would have thanked my lucky stars he was available cause I considered him in the 4th. 7. Peake So I got 2 WR, 2 LB, 2 OL and I still have my 4th rounder next year.
I think we should have moved around in the draft instead of staying put. With that being said here are my picks if we stayed put: 1 LaquanTreadwell WR (would have been Jack before the last minute injury reports, Spence was also a possibility here) 2 Makenzie Alexander CB (teams traded ahead of us to take slightly better players than him) 3 Kyler Fackrell OLB (DT and RB could be better value but both are deep in this draft) 4 Andrew Billings DT 5. Christian Westerman OG / OC 7a. Charone Peake WR 7b. Scooby Wright III ILB
Scooby is a nice pick there. Will be interested to see if Billings can stuff the line. Alexander and Fackrell are risky IMO but if you hit on both of them, you have a monster draft. I agree with you that one has to think about Spence at 20, but Treadwell is money in the bank as a 3rd or 4th receiver this year with upside #2 potential IMO.
In order of preference 1. Myles Jack Jason Spriggs Josh Doctson Will Jackson III 2. Sean Davis Cody Whitehair Shilique Calhoun Joe Thuney 3. Nick Vigil Kyler Fackrell 4. Connor McGovern Cardale Jones Andrew Billings Blake Martinez Willie Beavers 5. Jatavis Brown Christian Westerman 7. Vernon Adams Mitch Matthews Jeremy Cash Robby Anderson Scooby Wright Tyler Matakevich Charone Peake Jake Coker
Mac did try to move around. We know that he tried to trade up at least twice, maybe more. Supposedly, he was also trying to trade down. Picking where they were picking, there wasn't likely to be any team willing to move up to our spot. While I would have loved to have gotten some players that were out of our reach, the simple truth is that we couldn't afford to trade up.
True, and it is interesting to see what different posters would do. I'll have to add mine later. Have to go to work. EDIT: I wouldn't change a thing except possibly the trade for the 5th round pick. All the players I liked better in each round were gone, save for the 2nd round, and with taking Lee, there was no point in taking Sua Cravens or any of the other smaller, faster LBs.
You said who would you pick where the Jets picked. With that being said I believe that Westerman is worth a fourth next year so for him I make the trade.
I instantly thought of doing the same idea of a thread like this yesterday and instantly came to the conclusion that the Jets did a great job. Wouldn't really change a thing, at 51 we got the player who still last year some thought was best player in the draft. I did love William Jackson III but Darron Lee is a great player and most thought he was better and was mocked in literally every single spot in the top 17, No one thought he'd get past ATL. 3rd pick Jenkins is probably the only universally accepted pick in the 3rd round. Some can argue Fackrell but if u look at Mauldin and Jenkins now, they're both 6'3-64 both 255 + Fackrell is actually smaller by 10 pounds and Jenkins is younger by 3 years lol, don't think that didnt play a factor. We drafted the younger project who still hasn't likely reached his potential. and sets the edge better than Fackrell Some knock the CB pick but give me the guy drafted by Bowles vs the another guy on Mel Kipers best available, theres a reason why theyre available, they fell to the 4th round, then isnt the time to moan just because you don't know his name. Its not your job to know his name its the guys who run the scouting department. 5th round tackle who provides depth and in the 7th a punter and a guy most had a top 75 prospect at pick 241.
So unless you add a different pick you are on record as picking the exact same picks as the NYJ including trading the 2017 4th.
I'll play. 1. Myles Jack. He's who I was shouting for when he was on the board still and I'd be a hypocrite If I did it differently. BPA. 2. Christian Hackenberg QB (I keep playing this in my head and while I think it's a slight reach here if he's not taken here I don't think he gets past the browns first two picks in the 3rd and there is no other QB I like) or, the No QB version I'd take Su'a Cravens or Le'Raven Clark here or Vonn Bell here. Not really sure which. 3. Kendall Fuller CB 4. Jerald Hawkins OT 5 Christian Westerman OG 7 Victor Ochi LB 7 Charone Peake WR
Personally I would have gone : 1. Paxton Lynch 2. Mackensie Alexander 3. Jordan Jenkins 4. Willie Beavers No trade into Rd 5. That said, I'm a fan and enthusiast. Mac is the professional, and I have no reason to doubt him at this point.
I really think too many are being unfairly tough on Mike Mac. Rd 1 Darron Lee ....BPA and solid choice to infuse speed into our defense. I think Lee was a top 15 talent and surprise the Falcons passed. So far, Mike Mac has gotten good value in Rd 1 the last 2 years. Rd 2 Le'Raven Clark, OT....long arms, and possible starter at RT and future LT. Needs some experience but has lots of potential. Two of my favorite players Spriggs and Nick Martin just selected before the Jets. I don't hate Hackenberg, but I believe we could have traded down and got him later. Not the BPA in Rd 2. Rd 3 Kyle Fackrell, OLB......but I'm Ok with Jordan Jenkins. Rd 4 Devontae Booker, RB.......Steal in Rd 4, even though not a huge need, You don't pass up someone with his talent. Booker should have gone in Rd 2. This Kid is going be a star in Denver.
RD 1 - Darron Lee - Earlier my hope was conklin, but he moved way out of our range. Having a speedy LB who can actually guard that RB wheel route fills a big hole RD 2 - Hackenburg - We've needed a QB for a long time, we are too good to get someone in the top 5, so taking a guy around this round until someone sticks is the best way for us to get one, Hackenburg was the consensus top pick of this draft after his freshman season, and for some even as early as the beginning of this year. He is the perfect type of QB for us to take and hope for the best. And we can't say "could have gotten later" because no one knows that for a fact. If you think a player is the best available, you take him, you don't take a player you have a lesser opinion of and hope that no other team has your guy rated highly. RD 3 - Jenkins - again I'm agreeing with Mac, many people had us mocked to us at 2, and he's a good fit for our defense. I see Fackrell being the wanted pick in this thread. I think the age difference is major here. We don't really talk about a prospect's age in football, but think abotu when a baseball prospect is graded. Jenkins and Fackrell are in a similar level now, but what is the difference after Jenkins gets 3 years of development vs Fackrell now? RD 4 - OT Brandon Shell - I'm not a fan of trading future picks at a lower value, I don't dislike Burtis but with unknowns in the CB depth, I'm okay letting that position play out. If we liked the two of them I'd prefer to take the OT this year as we have more questions there. RD 5 - no trade RD 7- Scooby Wright - Most round 7s don't make the team, so I want to see what Scooby can do in camp. RD 7 - Tyler Matekevich - same thought process. Maybe one of the two can serve as LB depth/ special teams, which is plenty of value for a 7th rounder -I'm basing the RD 7s knowing that we are getting hackett as a UDFA, I feel that given our punting job is wide open that we would have no issue bringing in another top UDFA punter to compete with him if LAC is drafted. - obviously I'm a big fan of our draft. I changed the lottery tickets at the end, but I have no problem with who we took at those spots.
Agree, I'm okay with Lee, I just put in Jack because that's who I was shouting for when the Jets turn came up for draft. It's the one pick I would have felt like a hypocrite on if I had gone any other way with the pick. I stayed with Hackenberg in the 2nd because he was best QB on the board and I honestly think the Browns would have taken him at #65 or #76 or the Texans may have Jumped us in round 3 for him. Ostweillers not a sure thing and O'Brien knows him and had him successful when he was his coach. Admittedly guesses on my part but when researching prior to the draft Texas and Cleveland were both projected landing spots for him and round 3 was where his real value was. I mention that because I was leaining really hard towards taking Le'Raven Clark in round 2. And I mention that because if I had taken Le'rven in 2 then I would have taken Booker in round 4. So basically I'm saying, yes, you have one hell of a draft that I agree with by and large
I really liked Booker a lot as well, but would you keep 4 RBs? Rookie RBs should start as it's the easiest position for a rookie to come in, start and play well. With 4 RBs, there just wouldn't be enough touches for anyone in TC or during the season. I could get on board with that if they got rid of both Zac Stacy and Bohannon, but there would still be a problem of whom to play and getting enough reps. I think Burris was a pretty good pick in round 4.
