I realize it's just business, but at some point Fitz has to reach out to Macc. It's become clear to him that he isn't in the big picture. Any leverage he had is gone. And now his retaining the starting job is in doubt.

$2 mio for the year. What does that do to Fitz' market?

If Fitz wants to keep playing, the Jets are still his best option by far. He can keep the starting job for another year or even two, and he has a chance to take this team to the playoffs. No other team is offering him that, nor are they offering him the money the Jets are.

With all the rookies we have to sign.... What can we afford to pay Fitz?

Currently we have enough cap space to sign the rookies and virtually nothing else. It would be foolish to cut Breno at this point, so the only possible cut is Geno. But even if Fitz re-signs, I don't think the staff will cut a QB until the preseason is over. So we will have to restructure contracts. Doing the math on OTC, if we sign Fitz for 8M, restructuring Skrine will get us within 1M of the cap, and restructuring 1M of someone's else's contract will take care of the rest. Even after the restructures, we will still have 32M in space for 2017 (24M after Richardson's option kicks in), not counting a possible extension for Mo or any further Fitz money. Of course, there will be cuttable players, including Revis, David Harris, and others if need be.

Only the top 51 salaries count against the cap so the amount of undrafted free agents doesn't mean much in that regard.

Well with 2 unseasoned QBs and one flop on the roster the Jets need a Vet ...any vet lol to start the season imo

Bowles says its Geno OMG...might as well write off the SEason right there

We need Fitzs chemistry bad ,,,the Draft has strengthened his hand a little. I cant believe Mr Eco major doesn't know his value already and reduces his number

wow ..Hoyer signed with someone? Didn't catch that on news

You make sense but a few million more to keep that godawful 32nd ranked QB from under center is worth it for my mental health and entertainment value

not for me. we are unlikely to make the playoffs with fitz anyhow. id rather start the development process of who we have now vs. giving fitz an idiotic deal

We could have had Hoyer for $2M, and the front office let him walk. Hoyer for $2M was way better than Fitz for $10M.

I loved having Fitz last season, but we gave him a chance to end his career on a high and earn good money, but he is now trying to make the Jets look like the bad guy. We have offered 2-1/2 times what he made last year with guarantees, and he acts ungrateful. I say give him until Friday and cut all ties.

No other team in the NFL was going to give him $5M and rumor has it the Jets would go up to $10M. Yet he is mad at the Jets, the only team to give him a shot last year.

The current market for Journeyman QB's with decent stats but dreadful last games in 2015 is currently $2mio per year. The Sam Bradford/Chase Daniel market has been exhausted. Fitz is smart. He should figure out what the market is telling him.
