I don't watch PSU, so I have a question: Were the accuracy issues there in his first year? Did they arise after?
Funny how the same fans that said a sub 60% passer couldn't succeed now are fully on board He's got a lot of work to do with his footwork the tape mentions his front foot when throwing passes which correlates to inaccurate passes.
When you refer to "the tape" are you talking about the Gruden QB Camp segment that points that out? Just curious, because it seems like you're trying to sound like you actually spend a ton of hours watching coaches tape to analyze college players when you refer to "the tape".
I see a ton of red flags but like I said before I can't judge him until I see him play. Can't really judge this pick until 3 or 4 years after he gets substantial playing time. So if he sits a year, and starts in 2017, 2020 is the earliest I can judge this pick.
That's what I want to get at. Because from what I see he can be accurate. The things that went bad for him appear that they happened progressively and are signs of being under duress. I don't believe yet that he is an inherently inaccurate passer. Footwork and touch will also suffer while under duress. The kid was under a lot stress and hopefully he can let go of it all and start with a fresh mind. It will be hard. Hopefully he's not scarred from it
This is probably the most excited I've been about a QB since Pennington, and it's mostly because so many people in this thread think he's a bad pick. Aside of the high likelihood of fans being wrong, the kid seems smart. It would nice to have a QB who can read a defense, make adjustments, go through his progressions, and win the chess match on the field.
Hopefully. The scary part is that he was missing screens and checkdowns like Josh Freeman, even when there wasn't any pressure. It's like the thought of pressure was messing with his head, aka David Carr syndrome. We'll see, hopefully it's no worse than what Luck went through in Indy last season.
Exactly. The duress can carry over into his overall outlook and posture. After a while he possible got into a negative state and couldn't gather his poise, and maybe took too much on his shoulders internally. It can effect his whole game, his footwork, and his touch included. No QB does well under those circumstances on a lesser team. It doesn't look to me like he had a lot of help after O'Brien left, anywhere.
I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I almost believe it should be its own thread. This video shows Hacks ability to identify a defense prior to the snap. I also watched game tape of him in other games and the one thing that I continually see is how bad his left tackle was. Constantly beaten like a drum.
That's Paris Palmer who couldn't bench 250 three months before that game. And he was probably the 2nd or 3rd best lineman on the squad last year.
Yes on the screens and short stuff, which made me want to pull my hair out. When he had decent protection, he was accurate. Throws a great deep ball when he has time to step into his throws. The last two years, teams were dropping 7-8 into coverage, and generating a consistent pass rush with 4-5 guys.
His accuracy issues came when Franklin made him switch his plant foot from left to right due to PSU running Jets sweeps and also Franklin thinking it would help him get the ball out faster however his lower body lacked movement and he was air mailing some throws or putting them in the ground. Similar to a pitcher trying to throw to first base in baseball. Mechanics are an easy fix however, you can fix stupid and this kid has the highest IQ of any QB in the draft
Okay. He can throw darts down the field. Maybe losing O'Brien hurt his chances on getting better at short range and touch stuff?....seems like possibly a lack of focus or concentration, and things just went bad to worse after O'Brien left He can stand tall and throw well, and he's quick too.
