The real wild card is will Gailey still be here in 2018? He's on a year-to-year basis at this point in his life.

DCarr was on NFL network discussing Jets QB situation sayin its a mess. All 4 will be competing against each other and no one will help including Fitz. Odd man out will be Geno

On positive note we have ole Chan who we brilliantly took out of the mothballs to salvage this situation

I don't think he will start Day One. But I think he will pick up the playbook and cruise past Petty pretty quickly. If they are 4 and 6 after 10 games, he might get a look.

My gut is that the Jets will either get Fitz to miraculously resign or pick up another veteran QB (trade, release or whatever). Cut Geno or Petty (probably Geno) and groom Hackenberg. I seriously doubt that Mac is going to the season with no veteran QB (not including Geno). If Hackenberg somehow prevails and earns a start in mid season, then so be it. I still think we are getting a veteran QB even if it is not Fitz.

Kevin Patullo (QB coach) is being groomed to be the future OC. He and Gailey have a working relationship history.

Doubt Geno is the odd man out as TB said he is the starter heating into OTA's maybe JJ can punch him in the mouth ... :)

I might get killed for saying this and I'm far from a Geno supporter but I'm ok heading into the season with Petty, Geno, and Hack. SCREW FITZ

Worst case scenario we lose badly and end up with a high draft pick ... best case we spend the year and actually find out if we have a QB of the future ...

With our brutal sched ... I doubt Fitz takes us to the playoffs I'll take this year and use it on finding out if we have a QB of the future on our roster ...

I think what this does make clear is the FO/CS really doesn't have the faith in Petty that we were led to believe. Obviously the progress they hoped for hasn't materialized and they're moving on. While I don't have a lot of faith in Mac's QB evaluation talents given the issues with the Texans, you have to hope that Hack is at the very least a NFL caliber QB. NO way they carry 4 Qb's so somebody walks the plank. I would imagine Chan had a lot of input into this pick which again, doesn't bode well for Petty.

    Interesting conclusion.
FO were praising Petty and politely sidestepping questions about Geno. How did you get to "bad Petty" escapes me.

I think this is the vote of no confidence on Geno, not Petty.

I say Petty because Geno isn't going anywhere with a year left on his rookie deal. Petty OTOH, should have shown enough that drafting Hack wouldn't have been a logical option. I'm saying Petty's progression isn't where it should be because if it was, Hack doesn't get drafted. You do have a point in that it very well could be that the FO/CS has no confidence in either Geno OR Petty and figured they had nothing to lose by drafting Hack. Still an indictment of our QB depth anyway you slice it.

Bolded is true only if Fitz doesn't sign. If Fitz is in, one of the 4 will end up on the Practice Squad. And I'll bet it'll be Geno, not Petty.

Jets are creating competition among rookies. It doesn't mean Petty is not progressing well, it's just good business.

My two cents on Chan and the pick
1- People that are hopelessly trashing Hack, the GM, and the staff are probably clueless in not understanding that Chan was more than consulted for the QB selection. He was without doubt the key source, asked who was best, who could he develop, who had the most potential, and were to focus our energy. I am going on record that if Chan wanted Cook or Paxton they would have pulled the plug in that direction. I am convinced this pick has Chan's blessing.
2- Hack was not brought in to start this year. No way no how. This is not the idiotic regime that did it to Sanchez and Geno. He was selected to develop under a great OC, something we have not had in I don't know how long, a wizard who made a perennial back up in Fitz look good. Yes the same Fitz no one wanted last year and now are salivating over.

In regards to the most recent comments above, I have two thoughts on this.

    - The first being if Fitz is resigned
(which I have full confidence he will be) I see Petty hitting the practice squad and them going with Geno as the safe option for a backup over the more intriguing "kick the tires" situation with Petty.
    - Second, if Fitz doesn't resign I believe Hack would win an
open competition between the three if Geno isn't dubbed the heir apparent.

What most of the scouts all seem to praise Hack for is the same thing that is crucial for success in Chan's system, the ability to go through your progressions, read a defense, make the correct read. He's praised for his high football IQ, same as Fitz.
Fitz who doesn't have a great arm, it's neither accurate or big but he understands the system and Chan is able to utilize it to cater to Fitz strengths. His strengths which are also the strengths of the system.

EDIT: With my second bullet point I just wanted to state that this is in no means a statement that I think Hack should start this year, far from it. I just believe he would bring the most skills to the table in a open competition.

Macc said the Jets reviewed every single game tape on Hack and saw a lot of things to like as well as the well-documented issues. They felt like what they saw on tape, his pro day and his private workout was a lot of talent with some issues that were correctable with coaching. I feel comfortable in knowing we have a very good OC who can get the best out of Hack (and Petty). Let the competition begin!

Great plan except we're on par with the Titans. We'll have 12 picks and blow 11 of them.

I think Bowles will manage the QB competitions fairly well. Speak softly and carry a big stick is an approach known to work well in managing alpha types. Carrot before the stick also works.

I know I said this two years ago and was wrong eventually but I still believe the Jets current defense precludes a really bad season. All the CB's got hurt and Rex couldn't figure out his plan B in 2014 until the Patriots were the opponent. I think that was the exception to the rule. I think the Jets floor this year is 7 wins or so because the defense will keep us in a lot of games. If we get lucky and one of the QB's has a career year like last year we might easily win 10.

I have an answer for Chan Gaileys possible replacement, i know it sounds like the obvious fan suggestion but why not hire the guy who announced the Hackenberg pick, CHAD PENNINGTON. Seriously how is Chad not atleast a QB coach at this level or a coordinator at the college level. I know he is a coach in Kentucky currently, but Chads brilliant and i think would make a great QB coach if he wanted to be.
