I'm totally okay with the Jets drafting a round appropriate QB every year for infinity until they find someone who can play.

Well I read another column which said they tried to get him to do that and he didn't. The implication was that maybe a few of the coaches who interviewed interpreted his answers that way. I was not there. I could sense him biting his tongue with Gruden and it was clear Gruden was trying to get him to spill, but he did not. And he did not kill his OL either, and those guys, from the video, looked like the worst. Here it is:

6'4 3/8" with a howitzer, smart, tough, played in a pro offense, unlimited potential, he needs help from Chan to progress...his best quality is loyalty, he could have left Penn State with his talent and could have gone almost anywhere but he stayed loyal, even though he took a beating every game with a terrible oline and mediocre receivers after Allen Robinson left...give him a chance before you hate him

Petty is and was better in college what does that say. You do not draft another project QB in Rd 2 with this current roster.

Really don't like this pick. If you are going to draft a QB, then take one in round one. At least then you have an option for a fifth year that you don't have with a second rounder.

With all the needs on this team, this pick seems like a total sense of desperation. I'm not hating the guy, but really thought we could have gone earlier, or later for another shot in the dark.

Except this isn't a round appropriate QB!

Cook maybe is a 2nd round appropriate one, not Hack.
    He is a 3rd to 4th rounder

If they were going QB - Paxton Lynch at 20 would have been a better option.

His disaster out the combine makes you better appreciate his Pro Day.

One thing I really don't understand is people calling this desperate or reactionary or a knee-jerk move. For weeks we've heard that Macc liked Hackenberg. We heard two days ago that they had him high on their board. Last night Macc flat out said he was high on their board.

This wasn't desperation. They took a guy that they viewed as a fit where they picked him. Whether or not that's accurate is a whole different story, but people are acting like Macc was on the clock and freaked out because he knows the impatient fanbase wants a QB at some point.

It's a message board; there room for both criticism and praise. Besides it makes for better threads to bump year(s) later.

Hope this isn't Mac trying to be too smart for his own good.

    At least he's not timid.

In the minds of the FO and CS the 2 project QBs we have are Petty and Geno not Hackenberg.

Yeah, I slept on it and I think Gailey knows his QBs. So if they took this kid, there must've been something they liked. I wouldn't trust previous regime with this move, but this FO I believe.

Now signing Fitz is super important. Can't have Hack and Petty be "learning" from Geno.

You can hear the thump when the ball hits the WRs' hands. No doubt about it the kid has a Howitzer.

Dude. If we picked Cook instead this entire thread would be identical.

Totally agree. And all the talk about Jets taking Lynch at 20 where Jets felt he was a 3-4 rounder. This should not come to a surprised. They liked him better than Cook. Whether many here disagree, the point is the Jets liked and rated Hackenberg high.

Agree with that too. Cook has a questionable shoulder. Many NFL teams had him rated pretty low. NE also viewed him low too picking Brisset instead. Not to say that Cook would have not have been a better pick over Hack (who knows), many would have questioned if the selection was Cook instead.
