On the contrary, you are proving my point. It's NOT about speed, it's about coverage ability a "football" trait. I have no idea if Lee can cover at least in terms of man coverage. I know he is fast, that's it. Most of the games I saw he was dropping into a zone. EDIT: Lee running a sub 4.5, may also have something to do with him going into the 1st round.
Whats the contradiction? Davis is gone and was never any good and Carter is a journeyman who i don't expect much from what do they have to do with Lee, he s a different player than both of them. Thats why he was chosen higher than the 2
Legler, watch his film. Lee was in coverage on the outside an awful lot. Its hard to rack up tackle stats when you are tasked with covering someone outside, away from the play. Last night you used that stat and compared it to Brothers at Missou who had like a 100. They aren't at all comparable they had different roles. I would HOPE that brothers had more tackles than Lee based on what was asked of each player, otherwise brothers would be a terrible prospect
Well let him try dammit lol! Look the point is, he's a prospect, no one really knows can we atleast wait until he gets on the field
I'm waiting on 007 to weigh in before deciding what to think about this pick. Where go goes, I follow.
You know 30 other teams passed on Jack too right, I'm sure were not the only team trying to get better, something is wrong with his knee, and no matter how much u don't want anything to be wrong with his knee there is.
I saw this article on PFF and kinda confused by this. I do like the fact that they used some facts to backup their opinion but I simply disagree. Lee isn't really "raw" in the fact that over the past year he's put on a lot of weight, still remained fast and has been transitioning from a QB in high school. Many have put him as the 2nd best linebacker in the draft and certainly hes the most athletic. PFF seems be most concerned about his coverage abilities, but Bowles has already acknowledged that he needs to get better at coverage. Clearly, if Bowles thought he'd be a liability in coverage then we wouldn't have picked him. As for the run stuffing abilities, we have such a big front 7 that it should be fine. Something I also noticed was that PFF didn't like Lee before the draft so its only natural for them to hate the pick.
I get it, zone/man, but find me a scouting report that says he can't drop back into coverage. We're playing the ultimate guessing game here. All I know is he was projected top 20 for a whole lot more than his speed.
I know they had him line-up in over the slot a lot and dropping in coverage. I still would have expected more tackles. To be fair it could be the product of all the great players in front of him, making the plays in the first level before he even had the chance.
I wanted Kelly to slip but oh well. Then doctson was still there and I would have been happy with him as well. At the very least Bowles has a guy that provides flexibility in all the sub packages. The strength of our dl should help to keep him clean, but the kid will be getting after it.
