I know that not addressing the offense via the draft is why we have to do 1-2 year rentals all the time on that side of the ball.

Let me clarify for you. I meant he gives us the speed we need on the edge of this D. The Jets consistently got burned in this area with slow footed Pace and Gholston the last few years. He's not an edge rusher obviously. This is a speed league now more than ever. He's a big upgrade in that dept.

What's the justification for saying that Lee wasn't the BPA? He was projected as high as 10 in some mock drafts and rarely lower than 17-20 in almost all mock drafts. Is it really that crazy to think he was the BPA in the Jets' big board? I don't...

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Jack was completely removed from it, as he should be. Still can't understand people saying we should have taken a shot on a guy who 1. Has such major health concerns and 2. Every other team in the first round passed on because of them.

Lee was a solid pick but there is a ton of talent left for us to hit a home run in round two. Move up if you have to Bowles but make the next pick count.

Only for the SOJFs in attendance. Most people like the pick.

Exactly. Round 2 is where I think we need to make our impact. Lee was a no brainer pick for this front office and this defense. Lynch would have been awful and there were no OL worth taking at 20, so target a QB or OL now.

Don't fool yourself the Jets play a 3-4. If we played a hybrid like you say, we wouldn't be standing up a 300 lbs 3 technique DT on the edge. You are right about just one thing; Lee NOT Mauldin will be handling RBs coming out of the backfield but it will be in sub packages which we are in most of time anyway.

I like darron lee and think he will be a "good" player for us. I am just incredibly lukewarm on drafting him. Maybe it is the fact I am a firm believer in shoring up the offensive line or the fact that Treadwell and Doctson were both sitting there for the taking and is a need as well as a BPA.

The only "experts" that don't love this pick are the ones on this board.

There were no OL worth reaching for and how can you assume Lee wasn't the BPA on the board? Guy was projected 15-20 in most mocks. Falls right in line.

It's amazing. For once the Jets make a very solid pick in the 1st round and you still get the naysayers on this board. I've watched enough of Lee to know that he can handle big OL coming at him if he has to but his speed and explosion will be a big asset to this D as our LB corp has been sorely lacking this for years until Mauldin was drafted.

And how was this not a need? You can lack that the one need coming out of last season for the entire TEAM was speed on defense and an LB who won't get burnt in coverage. We drafted the best guy available to do that.

WR is a need next year. Certainly not a NEED right now.

I have a good friend who I believe is pretty good at evaluating football players. I respect his opinion on college players quite a bit. He's is also a big Ohio State fan, and Bills fan. Last year he was very opinionated about Devin Smith - saying it was a terrible pick. Well, FWIW, this year he was very high on Lee and was really hoping that was the Bills pick.

probably not worth much to people on here, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

My pick would have been Doctson or Treadwell. However, the lack of speed at the LB position was crippling. Literally lost us the game in Philly last year. The need was glaring. I'm glad they stuck to their board and just drafted their BPA.

There is still a lot of talent to be had. If the Jets can come away with an OLB/OL/WR in the next few rounds, you won't get a complaint from me. ILB was a need, and this is the direction a lot of ILBs are going in.

If you read PFF Lee is actually rated terribly in coverage.

Drafting someone strictly to fill a "speed need" is stupid. It's what the Raiders under senile Al Davis did. You draft a guy to play a position or a role in mind. While I'm not ecstatic about the pick, I do believe Bowles/Mac have a plan for Lee in the defense and it won't be hey be our speed guy.

If you read PFF Treadwell shouldn't have been a first round pick.

If you read PFF Calvin Pryor was one of the 10 worst safeties in the league this year.

If you... you get my point.

what exactly are you saying here? lol.
"drafting him without a plan would be stupid"
"but we drafted him with a plan"

    ok...?
