I think with Mac and QBs it'll be either "he is the franchise guy, get him NOW" (eg 1st) or "it's a project and we can pick a project later".

2nd is too low for OMG QB, but too high for a project. So I'd be surprised if they pick a QB. Only exception I see if Mac gets extra picks ( via trade down or Mo) and uses one of those on a high-end prospect.
Short of that, he'll pick a project QB, but later in the draft.

I'm very happy with Darron Lee as our first rounder. We needed to upgrade our speed at linebacker and this kid can flat out fly, and he makes plays all over the field.

The Jets do take a lot of defensive players in the 1st round. Until the offense gets up to consistently acceptable levels the defensive picks will strike many people as part of the problem. If there was a QB worth taking on the 20 a Lee pick might have been part of the problem, but there wasn't.

Are we good enough to be drafting hybrid players now?

i dont know, whats your honest take on it? do you think he was arguably the best player available and a pick we could afford to make at #20? i think everyone can see the fit. i dont know that he isnt a specialty/luxury player though. i dont see the talent comporable to the wideouts that went immedietly after. if your a fit over bpa guy the pick makes sense. consensus was most wanted BPA, as did i. and i want to drafted with an eye on the future as well, not just imediate fit and impact.

I mean for me, I like this pick alot more if its say, Elandon Roberts in the 3rd or 4th round(who i wouldnt be suprised if we still drafted). i like it less in round 1.

Yup. I personally think its a great pick. Not even just from a pass rushing standpoint as you point out, but this defense was beat on the outside a lot last year in the running game and in the short passing game. Teams caught that on film and took advantage.

Shitty buffalo especially runs that college-style sideline to sideline offense and it hurt us big time both games. A LB that runs a fuckin 4.4? that's exactly what this defense needs. He's small but small linebackers that can run with anyone are the future of this league. Plus with the hogs in front of him he'll be freer to run so size might not matter.

I don't understand the height complaint. Plenty of good linebackers are similar sizes. Linebackers that alot of people here wanted btw.

Just seems like the same few people (for the most part) looking for something to complain about something.

    Ok, but:

What would your response be? Am I missing something?

He may not be the best schematic fit but an argument can be made that he was BPA.

Ah, kinda like what I said over the winter when I predicted Lee might be picked, and you questioned my judgement. :D

    Just sayin' :)

Our number one glaring weakness on defense is pressure on the edge. This kid will not fix that. He will, hopefully be able to do what Davis was suppose to; cover TEs and RB out of the back field.

I don't get the SIZE OMG argument.

Once d-line cleans the way, does it really matter if the player hitting QB is 6-1 and not 6-4?

Vilma was great in Herms 4-3 scheme. Once Mangini took over and implemented the 3-4, he was a liability that we traded away. If you are saying we will be switching to a 4-3, then this is a great pick.
