Absolutely agree with you regarding BPA becoming hazy rounds 4+. I hope your scenario pans out with trading back. This team needs to get younger in key positions (I'm thinking LB and OL) but also add strength in key positions (TE, QB).... It would be nice to have more picks in hopes of striking gold on more than 1 or 2. (Striking gold for me is finding a player who can come in and provide an immediate impact in 2016.)
Good points. Definitely agree with your perspective re: Mo's market. But then again, the teams who are in the market for a superior DL and don't get it in the draft will be in the Mo market. I believe he will be dealt during the draft or immediately after its completion.
Possibly, but big trades rarely happen after the draft. Trading him after and getting draft picks next year straight up hurts the roster. You're right though in that it may be an only option with the excellent class of defensive lineman.
Wouldn't mind this trade at all provided Spriggs at #1 and Nick Vannett #3 are still there. With Spriggs. there are some zone scheme teams sitting there in the 20's and as for Vannett, a true dual purpose TE would be such an upgrade amidst the one dimensional softie Jason Amaro, stone hands Davis and ACL Sudfeld.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/04/27/vikings-g-m-teams-are-calling-about-moving-up-to-23/ If they are calling about 23, they are certainly calling about 20.
WW85 I love the trade down, but like some other posters, I fear that Spriggs won't be there at #32. If the Jets really like him, I don't think it would be a reach to take him at #20. I really like the Fackrell and Vannett picks as well. I can't comment on Hargrave, as I haven't even considered any DTs. From that standpoint alone, I wouldn't be thrilled with that pick. Do you see him as a 4-3 DT pass rusher, or is he more of a 3-4 NT or DE type? I have mixed feelings on Hogan. Some think that mentally, he is the most NFL ready, but his arm and throwing motion concern me. Still, if they want to add a QB, he wouldn't be a bad one to add in the middle rounds. I don't know anything about your last two picks, but don't like them simply because there is no Punter and no Punt Returner. IMO those are two of our biggest needs and I think that Mac HAS to come out of the draft with both of those positions at least addressed. I don't think a #4 WR will help the team at all at this point, and while the STs could use some help, they need it more at Punter and Punt Returner imo. So, overall would love the first 3 picks, am meh on Hogan, and would dislike the last two picks.
It would not be surprising if Mac trades down. He's said a couple of times now he'd like to. He also said that need could come into play outside of those top tier players. So, I like your mock. I was intrigued by Hogan already and saw yesterday Rick Nueheisel really liked him, fwiw. He did a quick breakdown of Goff and Wentz too. Neuheisel knows his shit and he's on the players in this years draft class.
I think Maccagnan will take a QB in this draft and he should until he fines one or 2. If we have 2 good ones we can trade one for some picks. Nothing wrong with that stratergy. Ron Wolf drafted one every year.
I don't think this draft is talent rich so why not load up on bodies and see what stick. I don't like trading out of the 1st entirely just not a fan of doing that. But kudos for this mock and I like the Hogan pick.
Spriggs availability will probably depend where Conklin & Decker come off the board. I've been waiting for Spriggs to move up most draft boards based on his Senior Bowl and workouts and it just hasn't happened. IMO, he's worth the 2oth pick in value, just don't know how the Jets feel. I really believe Ryan Kelly -C- Alabama is a wild card for the Jets at #20, he could play OG for a year or two. Hargrave is a poor man's Richardson. The Guy has a nonstop motor and penetrates backfields. He could move anywhere on the line, but would probably best suited inside. I like Hogan, he's smart and Gailey could work with his mechanics. I base this mock on the assumption we will resign Fitz to short term contract. I'm not a Paxton Lynch fan, I question his mental make-up and lack of anything similar to a NFL system in College. He doesn't know how to read defenses and is in a "Chuck and Duck" system. I can't justify taking a punter with only six picks, we can bring in a few in FA after the draft. Hackett's value isn't a 4th rd pick and we have no 5th or 6th picks. If we trade down and get some late round picks it's a possibility. Punt returners are being devalued in the league to kickoff rules and a real future possibility of eliminating kickoffs due to head injuries. Morgan Burns can return punts!!
Thanks for your response. You know I respect your opinion on players. I appreciate your turning me onto Spriggs earlier and I really hope the Jets get him. Why do you think Ifedi has moved up but Spriggs hasn't? I have seen one source stating that in his opinion Spriggs will be drafted in the 20s of the first round. Cook would be good pick. Getting solid OG play for a year or two and then having Mangold's replacement already on the roster would be great. Thanks for the info on Hargrave. I understand your hesitance to take a punter with only 6 picks, especially not having a 5th or 6th round pick, but I think punters are very important. Most teams get their punters from the draft, and most of the NFL retreads are just not that good. In terms of Hackett's value vs. other players in the draft, I understand how he might not be valued in the 4th round, but I think his value to the Jets would definitely be worthy of using the 4th round pick on him if he is as good as he's supposed to be. It doesn't have to be Hackett, however. If there's another punter who is close to Hackett in ability, I'd use the 7th round pick on him over the WR. Nice to know that Burns returns punts. Then I definitely would like that pick. If the problem with Hogan is mechanics and Gailey can fix him, I'd be all for taking him.
Though Hogan's floor is much higher, his ceiling IMO is back-up QB, like Petty. That late I'm swinging for the fences.
I appreciate your comments and enjoy your posts. Sorry I haven't been posting too much, life is going on and I devote some of my spare time to studying players and don't post too much lately. Plus, I've been playing a lot of Golf this past month when the weather is decent. I'd be OK with Ifedi, but not at #20. Ifedi comes from a school that has produced high picks on the O-line, Indiana not so much in Spriggs case could be a reason. You want the Safest pick in Rd 1........RYAN KELLY and it isn't even close. I think the Jets pick is going to surprise most Jet Fans. The BPA was a no brainer last year with Williams, it's not going to be that clear cut tomorrow.
I usually don't get the Rd 1 pick right, it's very difficult. Last year I had Amari Cooper, he went #4 to Oakland. The Year before I had Fuller, CB who went a few picks earlier to the Bears. In fact, the last Round 1 pick I predicted in my Final Mock was Jonathan Vilma. I was a huge Vilma fan and he fit Herm's defense very well, until Mangini screwed him in his defense. The player I usually pick for Rd 1 turns out to be a solid player. BTW, I was the biggest Gholston hater on this site months before he was drafted, and I live in Columbus, Ohio
I understand, and I'm envious that you've been getting to play a lot of golf!!! Between the pinched femoral nerve and a congenitally compressed disc between L3 & L4, my golfing days are over. I was never that good anyway, but always enjoyed playing, especially the 19th hole, even though I usually wound up paying. LOL Yeah, I wouldn't be happy with Ifedi at #20, either. He scares me. I think he's moving up because of the school he's coming from and his athleticism, but could be wrong. I think you're spot on that the Jets pick will surprised most Jets fans. I LOVE that no one has a clue what Mac will do. I'm confident he will get a very good, safe player with his first pick, whether it's at #20, #32, or wherever. Can't wait to see who we get.
I'm really interested that you mention Ryan Kelly, as no-one else has seemed to do. I watched all Bama's games last year and he really is a good centre and it would be great to have someone there, in a vital position, when Nick Mangold finally goes. I'm told he can play most positions across the line too, so as you say, he could play as guard for a year or so before moving to centre
As always, great call WW85! Lee will be a great player for us. The FA-acquisition of Bruce Carter showed us, what type of players Bowles and Maccagnan had in mind when it comes to improving our LBs. We needed LBs with speed and coverage skills to complement our run stoppers D. Harris, E. Henderson and T. Jones. That's exactly what we got with Lee and Carter. Darron Lee will be a hybrid inside linebacker for us, pretty similar to what Deone Bucannon is for the Arizona Cardinals (Bucannon was listed as "moneybacker" or "$LB" on the Cardinal's depth chart (now ILB); on NFL.com he is even listed as OLB). The main difference will be, that Lee is going to roam around more horizontally, playing OLB (and even Nickel) in certain packages.
I Must have been doing a Mock for Green Bay......They took Spriggs & Fackrell!! Green Bay usually has solid drafts
