The bold is the key. This a relatively deep QB class; there's better QB value later in the draft. He's just not worth it. Think about this; both the Eagles and Rams could have easily stayed put and draft Lynch. Instead they elected to "mortgage their future", so to speak, to draft guys that at the beginning of the draft process we thought would be at best mid to late first round picks. Are they that special or is Lynch that scary? Aside from his size and athleticism for his size, I don't see what makes him a potential franchise QB or even a first round pick.
Not sure I totally agree with this statement but it still proves my point. Why draft a project QB that played no one IYO in the 1st when I can get the same thing in the 7th?
Again don't totally agree with this but it does still support my stance. Lynch's doo doo doesn't smell that much better than Brissett's, Hack, Cook or Driskel's to the point I would invest a 1st round pick on him.
Again, intelligence level is overrated for a QB in my opinion, but 18 on the Wonderlic is alarming. That's idiocy level. The majority of the people on this forum would do much better than an 18. You have to wonder about his ability to absorb information with that type of score. I already got that sort of vibe based on watching him talk.
Fair enough. I like the Ron Wolfe philosophy of drafting a QB every year whether you have one or not. If you hit, it's an asset either way. That said; the value has to be there. I'm not drafting Lynch at 20 just because we may or may not have a QB and he is the best left at the time we pick.
Oh I'm not taking Lynch anywhere near the first. If we HAVE to take a QB I'd much rather take a flyer on Driskel in the 7th rather than any of those other guys with picks where we could find starting Olineman or LBs or a WR or RB. Using a 2nd or 3rd or 4th on the crappy QBs that will be available because we just HAVE to take a QB to me is a waste of incredible currency. Take a flyer with one of our 7ths on a QB, sure. _
Actually I would be ecstatic if we took Driskel in the 7th because that means we weren't foolish enough to waste an early round pick on a Hack or Cook or Dak or Cardale. Low risk for potentially high reward whilst we upgrade our Oline and LB corp. I mean, if we absolutely HAVE to take a QB (which I don't understand). _
Despite being intrigued by Hack and Brissett, Driskel in the 7th is where I thought the best value was for a QB and that's where I eventually pulled the trigger in my mock. As I stated before, I believe in drafting QBs every year plus I'm not a Petty believer. So I believe we should draft one.
I'm a Petty believer. He's going to be the man. I can feel it. But if our drafting Driskel gets Geno off the roster I'm all for it. I'm actually warming up to the idea. I may start a thread "It's Driskel time!" _
It's not an end-all be-all, but it's an obvious concern. I've never used a Wonderlic score against a prospect and I've criticized other's for doing so, but 18 is a special level of bad. I'm not saying he's a dumbass who won't amount to anything in the NFL, I'm saying it's something to think about. Especially when you consider reports that he was very unimpressive in interviews.
He's been very unimpressive in media interviews. He spent the day at Bristol the other day and all I kept thinking was how the NY media would tear him up.
I really don' t think its wise to want Geno gone so quickly. We need someone to fill the void. We aren't drafting a QB 1st overall anytime soon. Hopefully Geno or Fitz can hold the fort and then we can try Petty while moving to the top of the draft if it doesn't work.
I'm big on feet; hence, why I like Driskel this year and Mariota last year. For the same reason, that's why I'm not a Petty believer and/or a Genobot. Despite being a Spread shotgun offense Driskel on most snaps at LA Tech last year displayed great feet, unlike the aforementioned. It's funny; Hackenberg looked like a draft-able QB just one year, his freshman season 3 years ago, yet there's talks of him possibly going in the 1st round. Driskel does the same thing but the opposite timing; the year he looked like a draft-able QB came in his final season. He's barely a Day 3 prospect. What ever happened to what have you done for me lately? People can't seem to shake the memory of Driskel's play at Florida as easily as they can Hack's last couple of seasons. I guess once you make a decision on a player early it's hard to go back. To be fair I fell into that trap too as he was the last QB I went back to look at cut-ups on. The tape surprised me; LA Tech's offensive coaching staff is either really good or Florida's was horrible.
I saw Hack play his first ever game live at MetLife against my Orangemen and I was not impressed. LA Tech's got one of my all time favorite college QBs on its staff as WR coach, Tim Rattay. I always thought he was going to be a player in the NFL. Too skinny. _
I hope you are right because it will be reality if we don't trade Mo. There is a very good chance Petty will beat out Geno.
