Over the last 10 years I'd take the Jet's seasons over Buffalo Miami Cleveland Jax Tennessee Houston San Diego Oakland KC Washington Dallas Minny Detroit Atl Tampa
DOH! I was alluding to the OP alluding to the success we have had since 2006... and your own all to predictable reply, of course.
I have been posting that for months--Nick and Clady are old, but still good. Breno is old and not good. Brian never was good. The jets really need to draft 2 GOOD OL.
Stability is overrated in my mind. Given the choice between a mediocre veteran and a promising young QB, I would rather play the promising young QB and let him take his lumps for a year, then evaluate. If he shows promise...good, if not....move on. I remember when they asked Favre if he was preparing Rogers to take over at QB, his response was perfect. He said it wasn't his responsibility to prepare Rogers, it was Rogers responsibility to prepare himself. I always think of that when people say young QB's need to be mentored. Yeah, it's nice to be able to bounce stuff off a vet but there is no substitute for learning the game by playing.
Thats all well and good , but for a team that doesnt have 90 percent of its stars at an advanced age. Revis , Marshall , Harris , Mangold ..even Forte and Decker arent exactly young anymore. This team has a window with these guys. 1 to 2 years. That cant be wasted on a young QB taking his lumps. A QB learning a system can derail our season very quickly next season. If we're gonna go that route guys like Revis and Marshall should've just been traded by now cause they have no place on a rebuilding, 5 win, team
add in the fact that this team is NOT a 2016 SB contender and you have no reason why not to play the kids and see what you have. Makes the 2017 draft easier to manage knowing what's on your roster..
If that's the case, one of those years is already gone due to a hellacious 2016 schedule and a flawed roster. Last season was probably our best opportunity with the present personnel as the only thing that's happened since then is they've gotten one year older and closer to retirement.
I agree fully. And even with Fitz back it would probably be tough to make the playoffs. But things happen in todays NFL. We could face teams during an injury struggle for them. Every year teams always underachive and overachieve so I cant look at the overall schedule and take anything from it. To me we're an 8-8 team that with a little bit of luck can get to 10 wins and a playoff spot. And with a little bit of bad luck could go 6-10. I just rather see that out then start a mini rebuild at QB.
you're still looking at 2017 at the latest..That's only two Drafts and one FA period away.. A lot of ground will need to be made up in a relatively short amount of time for Mac.
I can understand this point of view. Nevertheless, it was the same situation with Sanchez in '09, rookie QB, veteran team. Also, same situation with Eli when he took over for Warner in '04. Even so, I don't know what kind of window you're referring to. With Fitz, I think we can all agree there's no SB likely in this window. If you're thinking SB, then the Jets would need a top tier veteran QB to join the team which doesn't seem likely, so why not use the veterans to help get a promising young QB over the rough spots and then build from there?
Because I've seen that movie before in 2009 and 2010. Sanchez might've won the NE playoff game for us , but with an average veteran those years we might've gotten past Indy and/or Pittsburgh. Looking back , just getting to those games with QB play like that was miraculous. It might not be likely that we go to a Superbowl in the next year or two with Fitz at QB , but I dont think its impossible. Broncos got some of the worst QB play in the league last season and won a Superbowl with it. Its more than just a QB otherwise the same 4 teams would be playing in the title games every year. If we're not gonna go for it with a better than good defense and the best offense that we've had in a long long time , then whats the point of not just blowing it up right now and starting the rebuild?
Well finding that right young QB to build with is a 1 in 40 year search. I know some fans are high on Petty , but I wouldn't start him in a meaningful game next season. If anything there are better QB's in next years draft to target early.
Here are my 6 keys to the Jets making a playoff run in 2016: 1. Ryan Clady stays healthy and has an All Pro caliber season and the Jets are able to upgrade both Winters' and Giacomini's positions. 2. After Brady serves his suspension, he suffers a season-ending injury in his first or second game back or Belicheat is arrested for child pornography or bestiality and is suspended for the season. 3. Andy Dalton suffers a season-ending injury. 4. Osweiler flops as the Texans' starting QB. 5. Roethlisberger suffers a season-ending injury early. 6. The Chiefs team bus suffers a wreck between their hotel and the stadium and half of their team is seriously injured.
I agree, but in a way, you can't blame Jets fans. They've been sold that bill of goods a bunch of times in the past, and it has never happened. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice....
