Jeesh, hope the d'Arnaud thing isn't bad. His throwing arm? Fuck. When he starts hitting the lineup could be scary good. And Cespy- No more going airborne into stands. Thank you. Sounds like a really nasty bruise Familia looked a little better too
d'Arnaud probably heading to the DL. Kid cant catch a break but if its only a couple weeks its not too bad. He's gotta move away from catcher though. Noah isnt great at holding runners yet but 5 steals? Atleast 2 of those should've been thrown out. Not much zip on his throws lately
Did you hear that some where? Man, a lingering arm for him could be a real PITA. Defensively we're good with Plawecki, but everybody wants to see d'Arnaud get on a role hitting and have a big year at the plate. I wonder if he was already trying to shake something off? Slow start for him.
Rene Rivera was pulled from his minors game so likely he'll be called up. I wouldn't be shocked if they take a few days with Travis to see whats what but knowing his history , I think a DL stint is pretty likely. He's beginning to remind me of another version of Duda. Quiet for 3 weeks and red hot for 1. At the end of the year the numbers will probably look decent but we need some consistency. I can handle the subpar defense when he's raking at the plate. When he's hitting around .200 with no power , his weak arm negatives are more out in the open.
Was hoping he'd at least make it to May. Travis d'Arnaud placed on DL. Rene Rivera promoted. How are you guys feeling about Travis d'Arnaud in general? I'm not going to get on his offense (yet) but as a catcher? Was hoping he'd be our guy for a long time to come, but it doesn't look like he can field his position. Get on base and with him you're a second away from being in scoring position. He has to be one if not the worst defensive catcher in the Majors. Right not he's injury prone, can't hit, and can't throw anyone out. That's a bad trifecta. I really like him, and really want him to work out.
Best thing we can hope for is Plawecki takes this opportunity and runs with it. He was decent when Travis missed time last year , but also struggled (like the rest of the lineup) at other times. Maybe him not being asked to do much besides be an upgrade defensively will show us what he's really made of. I like d'Arnaud better cause of the potential , and he's had some bad luck , but he's officially gotten the 'injury prone" label.
Yeah, I'm not too crazy about TD. The one thing I really like is how he framed pitches, but that doesn't matter If you can't throw anyone out or hit.
A rotator cuff is a serious issue. And I just hope he can get a clean bill of health sooner rather than later. It reminds me of Chad Pennington. He's not the guy you want with an injury to an average arm to begin with. Td'A proved he can hit. We're better with him. He's not gonna be changing positions this year. Remember Todd Hundley. It's not easy to do. And there's nowhere for him to go. If T.a' can't stay healthy that's one thing. But you had to give him every chance to reach his potential as a Catcher first. Handling the pitchers is the first order of business. Plawecki will do well. Three weeks ago writers and talking heads were questioning why he wasn't batting in the heart of the order, lol.
Great team win tonight. Bartolo didnt have the best stuff but he kept the damage to a minimum. Verrett and Reed have been awesome and back to back solid outings for Familia. Plus the Nats lose Stringing some wins together , nice to see.
I've heard that question pop-up before about him but never heard 3rd as a consideration..although that would be pretty convenient for us lol. Supposedly if he ever changed positions it would either be to 1st base or left field. Only downside with that , along with the defense question marks , is if d'Arnaud in his best year could hit lets say .275 with 20 homers and around 80 RBI's , then that looks pretty good if a team is getting that at catcher. If they are getting it from one of those other positions , all of the sudden he becomes average. Kinda like Ian Desmond this year. He might hit 25 HR's but he's not at SS anymore where his those numbers would really stand out.
I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Verrett. And it's always a good night when the Nationals lose.
Anyone else see / hear that Spanish guys play by play call of the Cespedes home run from last night? Absolutely hilarious.
