I agree that he likely goes higher, but with Goff/Wentz going 1/2, perhaps Lynch sneaks up too. Inevitably, some team will also make some surprising pick causing somebody to fall. Perhaps Conklin ends up being that guy that falls. Every time I think of Wilkerson trade scenarios, whether for a 1st or high 2nd, I keep trying to find a way with a Conklin+Cook pairing.
Heard Collingsworth on the Boomer show this morning. He thinks Cook is the best QB in the draft. Cook definitely has supporters.
When there are this many opinions on who is the best QB in the draft odds are there are no world beaters available. They all have flaws with Wentz having maybe the fewest but still no guarantee of success. When you have a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck in the draft everybody knows it a year in advance, sometimes 2 years. When you have a deep draft full of quality QB's, like 2004, it's obvious by now. Odds are excellent that one of the guys taken this year will be very good but it's like 2014 all over again. It could be any of them.
I don't think he's the best, I think that title belongs to Goff with Wentz as 2nd. Cook comes in at 3rd. I think there's potentially 3 QBs that will be starters, but none will be elite. The tape shows why Cook is a good prospect. It's no coincidence the Browns traded down, it was a smart move. I think they want Cook or Lynch.
IMO I would take either cook or lynch BEFORE the other guys that will be 1 and 2, expectedly....... Not sure if they are both 1st round material but these days all QB's are over drafted.
I have seen him 4 times I think. Every game he completely misses wide open guys on short timing passes. Maybe once or twice, but he always does it. Simplest pass in the world. What it is about the short ones I do not know. But to me that is a problem.
100%. He misses the easiest throws. He HAS to be automatic on those passes. He was under 58% comp for his college career because he's just not accurate. _
He had a low 50% completion rate mainly because the offense almost always throws down the field and rarely checks down. There are QBs like Matt Ryan who completed less than 60% of their passes in college too. I enjoy watching MSU football so I've seen plenty of games. All you need to do is look at the tape and watch the offensive tendencies. That's why I tell people to watch the tape. He misses easy throws as well, that can be contributed to poor lower body mechanics. Every QB in this draft has flaws. If I have to draft a QB in this draft, I'll take the ones that are most pro ready in Goff or Cook. That have fixable flaws.
It should be fixable. But why hasn't his college coach fixed it? He has been there awhile. I cannot see him going first round.
Quarterbacks aren't finished products out of college. The QB showed improvement each and every year in other aspects. It will be his responsibility to make sure his footwork and mechanics continue to improve at the next level. I think he goes lower end of the first, early second. I personally would like to trade down and grab more picks. I think being at 20 is like no man's land in this draft. No real star, so we should trade down.
I really liked Brohm in college, and I thought he was going to be a star at the NFL level. The knock on Brohm was his inability to make difficult throws. They are not the same prospect by any means. My friend was a HUGE Louisville football fan, he knew he was going to be a bust because of that.
Polian said Lynch on the Jets would be a carbon copy of what the Jets already have on the roster with Geno and Petty.
I think carbon copy is taking it a bit far. Lynch is definitely a similar prospect in terms of where he's coming from and what he needs to learn but he's a better prospect than Geno and Petty were. Not by a wide margin but he has physical attributes they don't have and a higher ceiling as a result. I have no idea if he has the mental qualities that an NFL QB needs to succeed in most situations. It's possible that coming into NY and getting groomed in a cluster with Geno and Petty would give him some insights into what he really needs to do to succeed. It's not an easy job and he will not get the kid gloves treatment as a 1st round pick. It's hard not to see him playing earlier than he should due to the competition not being very good and having some early failures that he has to adjust too as a result. I think the guy to look at with him is probably Nick Foles. He's a better prospect than Foles but he will have some of the same challenges Foles had as heir apparent in Philly, except the guy he is replacing may well be Geno Smith in game 5 instead of Michael Vick in game 11.
