Schefter tweeted we are one of the teams interested How can we afford him? I guess if we traded Mo or heavily backloaded his contract Didn't know we were looking for another CB although it could just be due diligence
In a perfect world with no salary cap .... Signing Norman would probably mean Mo gets traded, Fitz doesn't get signed, and Revis is a short-timer.
Hope not, hes too old to commit that much to him. I believe he's 28-29, which means MAYBE 2 more repeat years. As we are already saddled with Revis' hefty contract, we don't need another at the same position.
According to Rotoworld, "The Jets' supposed interest was quickly shot down by local reporters, who described GM Mike Maccagnan's outreach as "due diligence.""
Norman is best suited for a zone scheme, not a man scheme, therefore, he wouldn't be a good fit in Bowles' D. I believe whatever level of interest the Jets had was just due diligence. He is 28. That's the other issue.
Haha the Jets definitely are not in on Norman. They can't even afford Mo or Fitzpatrick. and are paying Revis $16 million a year.
in the real world... even without signing norman, still probably Mo gets traded, Fitz doesn't get signed, and Revis is a short-timer.
Not going to sign a tender worth 14 mil, but will have to consider vet minimum to even entertain signing here. Yea, ok sports beat people.
I'm sure every team is "interested" in him..but to an extent. Even if we traded Mo and gave that 16 mil to Norman it wouldn't be smart. Giants or Dolphins are much more likely landing spots.
The Norman deal with the Panthers pulling their tag offer is similar to what Maccagnan is facing with Mo. Player wants mega bucks and won't budge, no long term deal is even close, and no trade partners emerging. Panthers pulled the plug and set him free. This could actually happen to Mo too, although Mo is a better/younger player so it's hard to believe no one would trade for him, unless his contract demands are too great.
Exactly. Look at Revis. Yes, we paid him $16M, but we didn't give up a single draft pick. If we had to pay Revis $16M AND give up a 1st round pick, he wouldn't be a Jet. Same situation with Mo. Teams would love to have him, even for $14-$15/yr, but to give up a 1st for the pleasure of breaking the bank kind of sucks.
I think something happened behind the scenes that cause Norman's release. Like he banged a teammates wife or girlfriend. No reason for a SB contending team to trade one of the best corners in the league just because he isn't going to resign there long term.
Panthers may have decided the tag $'s are better spent somewhere else than for a 1 yr rental, but your right, if that one year is a SB yr it's worth it.
Yeah with it being so close to the draft I'm pretty certain a 1st rounder won't be coming back in any potential Mo deal. But I'm content with getting back a 2nd rounder this year as long as it comes with a 2nd or 3rd next year too. Mac might have to work some magic for that though
The timing of it is what throws me off too. Like did Carolina not know about this around the start of free agency? If they did they could've gotten a suitable replacement in there. Now their kinda screwed. Secondary goes from really good to very average.
