well there goes the Wentz and Goff dreams.

i think this is actually a very intriguing year for QB's, and considering the trade ups, will be at least a memorable one.

glad both guys at least end up in the NFC.
does suck that Lynch will also likely go before 20 now.

Of course, if wentz is a bust then the browns are smart for getting out of the pick. Hue jackson is a pretty good coach. If he didn't like either qb they made the right move.

pretty good haul for the Browns for moving back 6 spots IMO. No idea what the value chart says, but that's a nice load of picks for 2 years. Maybe they can build a strong young core out of it.

As the plan would be to keep Bradford on the team, there is no possible way they go for a QB at #2. That would entail them making another trade. Bradford would be a lame duck if the Eagles have their way, though.

Mac now needs to be patient in this draft and wait 1 more year before drafting a franchise qb. Now with Goff and Wentz going 1 and 2, Lynch will go into the top 10 pushing down some quality prospects. I personally would love Laquon Treadwell at 20 to groom behind marshall and decker and then an OL (i.e. nick martin ) or an olb like Jenkins, or maybe get lucky with noah spence dropping in the second.

2015: Rams and Eagles swap starting QBs, sign both to new contracts

2016: Rams and Eagles decide both QBs suck, trade the farm to move up to 1 and 2 to draft new ones

At least these teams recognize the importance of the QB position and are willing to take the gamble. I would presume that their scouting staff sees something in one of the top QB's that warrants the price they are paying. We can debate endlessly whether they are doing the right thing but at least they recognize that championship teams are built starting with the QB.

Yeah, but everyone recognizes this. They don't get any brownie points for recognizing the obvious. The question is whether they are going about it in a prudent, calculated, and statistically viable fashion. My suspicion is that they aren't. As I promised in another thread, later tonight, I'm going to post all quarterbacks drafted in the top 3 over the last 30 years and give an opinion on how many of them ended up being worth what the Eagles just gave up. I might also do a similar analysis and expand my search to quarterbacks drafted in the top 10 and just ask whether or not they ended up being worth a top 10 pick.

I can agree with you about franchise QBs being hard to find, it seems like the Bills and Jets have a new quarterback every 2 years or so. UGH.

I think you're completely off base. They traded up for a QB. Bradford is on a 2 year contract that can be terminated after the season with little to no cap ramifications. That and $11 million in bonus money that the Eagles would have to pay at least a portion of if he was traded.

if this was the kind of year to sell the farm to move up for a qb, the browns would have just picked the qb

Why does everyone think this means Lynch won't be there at 20?

We knew Wentz and Goff weren't making it out of the top 10. One team that you thought was going to draft a qb didn't and the two teams that moved up had been in the convo for a qb in this draft for a while....

So for everyone that now declares Lynch will be gone.... Who's picking him?

When you factor in how underwhelming the next couple of QB draft classes appear to be, this does become a year to move up. Also the average first round QB argument is way out-dated; in the modern day NFL QBs get over drafted. If you are a GM of a QB needy team and wait to draft a QB you like at where you think he grades out, then you are the idiot not the GM that trades up 5, 10 or even 15 spots to get him.

Reports are that the Browns like Lynch. They may end having their cake and eating it too.

I'd take that bet in a heartbeat. Can we make private bets with the sports book money?
