I'm not really sure how to feel about this situation. I think we've got a "what's the best of a bad bunch of options" scenario on our hands. Fitz at over $8mil seems steep, Hoyer isn't a great option and I'm not convinced that Lynch is A) going to be available at our pick and B) franchise QB material. But on the flip side I do think a pretty good scenario would be that Fitz comes back for around $8mil and we draft Lynch or some other QB who can sit for a year and cut Geno. Leaving you with Fitz, Petty, Lynch (or whomever). It's sort of contradictory but it's better than the option of starting Geno or Hoyer and our future resting with Petty.
Geno never beat out Fitz you idiot.......They gave Geno the job and it was his to lose.He lost it.I actually am thinking of ordering an IK Enampalli jersey if I can find one,he's my hero
I would think Fitz already killed himself (as far as oppurtunity goes) by then. Woody Mac and Bowles said they do have a deadline with Fitz.. i'm guessing it would be draft day.
I honestly don't give two shits how much we pay him because the NFL prints as much money as the Fed. It's all monopoly money after 1 million.
3 yrs 30 mil which in the real world will get Fitz 2 years 16 mil after a restructure then cut. At that time Petty or the rookie will be set in Gailey's system and we can move on to the future. Hoyer is bait and Geno is a dead man walking. After this year Geno will be trying out for the Browns.
Is this referring to the Texans reaching the playoffs? Maybe take a look at that playoff game (in Texas) when you have some time.
So your saying not making the playoffs can be better than making it if you get blown out first round? i mean we only 1 pick ahead of them in the draft.
I think what he's saying is using Hoyer "making the playoffs" and then getting obliterated mostly because of his own terrible play as a way to say Hoyer is = or > than Fitz is lame.
No I'm not saying that at all. Making the playoffs is a team accomplishment. Brian Hoyer certainly wasn't the reason the Texans made the playoffs. If he was they wouldn't have gone out and spent 18 million a year on Osweiller. Regardless of what your opinion of Fitz is, Hoyer has never played as well as he has in the NFL. He probably never will either. Some Hoyer playoff highlights for you.
Adam Caplan Verified account @caplannfl Hoyer met with #Jets last night, also meeting with coaches today. Expect him to have a new team quickly (4-5 other teams interested).
nah my bad somebody else cleared up for me what you were getting at.. lol. Didn't realize this was a Fitz vs Hoyer debate.
At least the Jets won't have to worry about an automatic loss if one of them gets injured like last year when Fitz hurt his thumb. Mediocre QBs thrive on the Jets because of the defense and running game. I think $15m could possibly lock up both QBs. It's not entirely impossible to free this via restructures or moving Wilkerson (which I would rather avoid).
I don't think the Jets can afford the luxury of waiting until the draft is over. Hoyer has interest from multiple teams. If the Jets don't snatch him up asap they will miss out. It's tough, but it could give us leverage, but part of me still thinks they already have a deal with Fitz worked out and just need to drop cap space first. I do prefer getting Hoyer for cheap over Fitz for more than $12 for sure.
