What we have on the roster already is Geno (finished as a 32nd ranked QB) and Bryce Petty

Our stop gap QB RF is not playing and was our interim answer until we get a franchise QB

So why would you not get someone good in the draft ? smh

    Fitzpatrick/Hoyer/McCown, Petty, rookie/Geno

I'd prefer rookie, but if it doesn't play out like that, Geno will suffice

Draft Lynch/Cook and let there be a true QB competition at camp.

Maybe for Goff or Wentz. I could be wrong but I don't think they love Lynch that much.

Geno still has the benefit of upside and has the physical ability. Petty has all the physical tools as well. I'm not sold on any QB in this draft outside of maybe Wentz. If the FO loves Lynch then they should take him but it's stupid to take a QB just for the sake of it.

At this junction we might be at a cross roads between the devil you saw last year under the new offensive regime and the devil that missed his chance by a stupid altercation.
Fitz did the best with his chance, seized the moment, made us respectable and gained the players support. Unfortunately he is about to get punched right out of the starting line up by his own greed.

I have never been a Geno fan but I'm not about to join the trashing parade yet. We have no single shred of evidence at all as to what he can do under the tutelage of a top knotch OC and great WRs. His shortcomings while under center where significantly amplified by a fundamentally inept Offensive coaching strategy and giving the rookie fuck all to play with, not the least of which was playing him while he was not remotely ready to start in the NFL and be successful. What he did under Rex was not nearly as embarassing as the useless help he got from him and his staff.
We know what we are getting with Fitz, Ain't going to ever get better than that, and might not ever again be nearly as good as it was in 2015. Not much leverage I say, so if this continues he can watch Geno or Petty or someone else fail or succeed from his living room chair, unless he pulls his arrogance and his expectations right out of his ass and comes down to earth.

Good post. However, I don't buy the excuses for Geno. Aside from Mariota being a superior talent, I don't think Geno was any worse situation coming into the league. That is to say he was just as ready, given the comparable inept offensive coaching strategy and surrounding talent or lack there of. Despite, those shortcomings the Titans and the entire football world is able discern that they have found themselves a franchise QB. I wrote before that the great Bill Walsh said that you should know what you have in your QB after 16 starts. While Geno may not be as terrible as some of us may profess, after 29 starts, I think it's fair to say he is NOT a franchise QB. Being that at the least is known, what he may ultimately become should in no way stop attempts to upgrade. The search for long-term solution continues while Geno may have to be the de facto starting QB in the short term.

Correct. You don't take a QB for the sake of it. However, the need is clearly there

Weigh the upside and downside of Smith and Petty. The conclusion is Geno has proven downside and little upside while Petty is a 4 the round unknown with some positive upside. Between Petty and a Lynch we have room to grow moving beyond Fitz

For those of you who think Geno is an interim option, go put Geno on the market right now. No one is taking Fitz so who will grab Geno lmao.??? Geno is terrible and we will 0-7 for sure right outa the gate..

We are in QB quagmire faced with a very difficult schedule. This is why Hoyer may be on board soon

I'm shocked that Geno Smith is winning. I can't discount Geno completely, I just think Hoyer would beat him out for the job, and thus I'd rather have him start. The Jets don't need a super elite QB. They just need one that doesn't turn the ball over frequently(assuming they keep M0). Fitz was the best the Jets have seen in that department in years, but he still had his moments with streaky turnovers and bad decisions (Bills games).

Fitzpatrick's TD: INT ratio of 31 :15 is certainly respectable. But in just 11 games, Hoyer had 19:7 and a slightly better QB rating than Fitz. He'd be great with Marshall and Decker. I think he could easily duplicate Fitzpatrick's success. He'd be cheaper, he's younger and might be the only chance we have of keeping Mr. Wilks.

Besides, I feel that Petty should get at least another year before taking the reigns. I would also rather not see the Jets force a trade up for a high QB prospect and sacrifice a proven pro bowl DE in the process. I'm not sure either of these QBs are even capable of starting this year, but you never know. I'm now officially on the Hoyer over Fitz bandwagon.

Unless you think Lynch is clearly better than what we have why take him? Geno whether you like him or not has upside and is still young, with starting experience. Why write him off so quickly?

When Fitz got hurt Geno played, how'd that go?. If there is confidence in Smith why are we talking with Hoyer and still pursuing Fitz???

He looked alright in his one appearance. I don't think the FO are 100% confident in a Smith as are 99.9% of the fanbase. They are still pursuing Fitzpatrick because he was the starter last year and he played well and they want to maintain continuity. Hoyer is being brought in as a veteran stopgap to push Geno and potentially start.

Mac/TB did a great job of purging the circus type attitude that was permeating the atmosphere.

Now it's time to close the loop-sign either Fitz/Hoyer, draft Lynch and cut bait on you know who.....

    Exactly-he has 0 upside %

Put yourself in the shoes of the 31 other GMs out there-would anyone of them even give up a 7th round pick for him?

    I think not....

Geno must have a massive chip on his shoulder and must be working hard to get another chance to start... HOWEVER, that doesn't mean he will get another shot!! His play in a WCO was awful and the small sample size vs the Raiders in a CG system that you would think would be good for him, was sub par at best.

Its funny if you really think about it Geno Smith is at an absolute cross road in his career. Ironically enough in a contract year! He is in a perfect offence, great WRs, stout D, experienced run game and not to mention the starting journeymen QB from last year is holding out for $15 million!!

Either he's lucky and gets a shot, he fucks it all up for us or he rides the pine. I'm thinking the latter.
