Fitzpatrick played more games and was around longer. Hoyer sat behind Brady for 4 years before getting a starting job in 2013. Of course the stats would favor Fitzpatrick since he's played more games. I agree that Fitzpatrick is better for this team due to the fact that he has familarity with the offense and has chemistry with Marshall and Decker. But outside of that they're similar players.
So when you say he's been a starter for two years and last year was his first year with more tds than ints.... You really just mean that the first of the two he didn't throw more tds than ints? It really sound like less of a big deal when you put it in context. and for a career he has more tds so... I guess this being an election year, twisting numbers into whatever you want them to represent is en vogue.
The truth is.: With Fitz we may have a chance, With Hoyer we have a lesser chance, With Geno we have no chance.
Average accuracy. Below - average strength. Decent game manager but that's about it. Can't even say that about Hoyer. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
If we sign Hoyer its a sign that we are going to move up and get one of the three qb's wentz, goff or lynch, whoever is left. I would be shocked if Mac goes into the season with just hoyer geno and petty and one of the second rate rookie qbs in this draft i.e cook or hogan.
Bringing in Hoyer at around $4mm opens up competition with Geno for the starter, similar to last year. From what I've read on here Geno actually had the edge on Fitz until he got his jaw broke. Yes I know Fitz was coming back from injury but he had played in the system before and still wasn't the clear winner over Geno. What happens if they bring back Fitz (split the difference and say at $12mm) and Geno again plays better. That's $ they could have saved bringing in Hoyer and signing players that are late cuts from teams in TC. The point is even with multiple years experience in the system Fitz didn't run away with the job so who's to say Hoyer with no experience couldn't do as well as Fitz? If Geno out played Fitz then Hoyer might as well. If you have a choice of 2 near equal QB's (neither of which is the future of this team) why not take the cheaper option and use the $$ saved for better use such as improving the OL and OLB positions.
Texans couldn't trade Hoyer when he was making 4 mil/year so he's getting signed at 4 mil max when he gets a deal.
The fact that Hoyer is always injured, has played way less games, has a lower completion percentage and 0 chemistry with our two top-tier receivers has nothing to do with my emotions...
Nah we have no chance with Fitz either unless they get him elevator shoes so he can throw over the DL. Also unless Fitz was in the gym every day working on making his throwing arm stronger anybody who thinks we are SB bound IMHO is just deluding them selves
Fitzpatrick is obviously better than Hoyer, but he isn't worth $15 million to Hoyer's $4 million. Fitz gives us more of a chance next year, of course; but long term, be it Hoyer or Fitz, we're hoping that Petty or some new draftee QB develops into the starting QB.
Thats the thing. They sign Hoyer today, then they have Hoyer, Geno and Petty. The draft comes and lets say they pickup Paxton Lynch. Now they have 4 QB's. What happens if Fitz comes back and says he will take 8mio? Would they then cut Geno and Hoyer and have Fitz, Petty and Lynch?
