He was winning it in training camp up until he had his jaw broke. The difference here between what Fitzpatrick did and Brian Hoyer is Fitz has an amazing work ethic and is extremely intelligent. From watching Hoyer in Houston and Cleveland I can say I haven't seen the same drive. Fitz would of been the starter in 3 weeks max... Hoyer may never be able to overtake Geno... and if he does it will be just like houston... 2-3 weeks and he will be benched.

Sadly we have Geno, Hoyer, or paying Fitz way more than he is worth. Seems like this is always the shit Jets Fans have to deal with. But here's to hoping we find our Franchise qb soon.
If we were going to pay Fitz way more than he is worth, it would have happened months ago. So it's either let Geno ruin half a season, sign a Pats retread, or give Fitz slightly above what he is worth after drafted a garbage QB in a garbage QB draft. I'd prefer drafting a LT and signing Fitz for nothing in August of a throwaway year.
Fair enough. I agree with most of that tho I have to say I like Lynch. Just not as a first round pick. He needs time to develop. To me that's not what first round is for.
This year we're not making any noise anyway soooo, why not let Fitz walk and start Geno. Anything we get out him is upside and given that this is his walk year (?), he might just play decently. At any rate, 2016 is indeed a throwaway year so looks to me like we can use 2016 to stack more chips. Sorry Champ, but you're waiting at least another year.

I would agree if they used the money to re-sign wilkerson but they won't so just letting smith start because we are going to suck anyway would make the gm look like a fool.
Or a genius. Our record won't have 10 wins so barring the unforseen we'll be in the top 20 at next year's draft no matter who starts. Use Fitz & Mo's cash to sign Oline depth. Stacking chips. No real reason not to start Geno if Fitz doesn't want to compromise.
I hope fans realize the Jets, specifically Mac and Bowles have their work cut out for them this season. How many fans will turn their back on this front office if things don't go as planned? I bet it will be the majority of this board.
Maybe a half turn. I think they would have another season before you see the complete 180. Many are too bought in to turn so quickly.
The backlash would be ugly if they went against the fans and media's wishes by starting Geno and the season gets ugly. They simply can't name him the starter if he earns it in an honest competition then that's one thing. The fans and media wouldn't be as harsh.

Even if Fitzs signs, my expectations for this year with this schedule are low.... as others have pointed out up until the 5 game stretch last year he was playing mediocre but better then Geno. My advice to all of you is look at the schedule and competition (we are stepping up from last years competition) we will be playing, look at the composition of this team as presently constituted - which is rebuilding irrespective of what people think we are in for a long season. I trying to be a realist here and while I wish we were a PO bound team we are not... just my opinion after 49 years of watching this team.
