What's that saying, really? The Jets' QBs over the last 10 years have sucked balls. Saying he's the best means nothing. There are no guarantees that he can even come close to repeating his play from last season or that he can stay healthy. At his age, the Jets would probably only want or need him for one year anyway. IMO he's just not worth it. Just because other GMs lost their minds this year or are desperate, doesn't mean that Mac has to.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

So instead we sign Hoyer? Or a QB like him with limited upside and no skill to do what Fitz has proven he can do

His upside, in our offense with our OC and personnel, is probably the same as Fitz's, and he'll probably be about 4 million dollars cheaper.

I don't see Hoyer I'm the teams plans. I think if Fitz doesn't comeback they draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round and give Geno the keys for a year.

Hoyer would be an okay veteran to bring in to compete for the job with Geno.

If Fitz doesn't sign -- get best from what's available. If "best" is Hoyer, so be it.

I blame Fitz and his agent for this train wreck

Mac must be killing himself for not giving RF a 2 year deal

Fitz was kicked around like Hoyer till he came to the Jets and went 10-6

Its silly to quibble about who is slightly better or worse....the Jets are in deep sh*t because of RF salary demands

Mac has done the right thing not handing RF the $ and looking for any Vet. He should NOT be fired over this mess

Looks like we need to draft a QB ...somebody good...I wish Mac luck with that

You mean last year? We traded for Fitz and he had one year left on his deal. Macc would have been a fool to extend him prior to last season and there's no way he was going to do it mid season considering our cap situation heading into the offseason.

No to Hoyer unless he's here to compete with Geno for a backup spot.

You think he has 30 TD 4000 yards potential?

    Wish I was that optimistic

Look, I don't know much about Hoyer. I do know he'll be 31 in Oct, and that most here seem to feel he's just a cut above Geno. I understand that for his 10-6 season with the Browns his stats were Genoesque.

Geno is young, is familiar with our system, and hasn't had good skill players to work with, ever. If Fitz doesn't back off and sign then we should go with Geno/Petty/draft. At least with Geno we can imagine he might play better.

those are some good points the only thing I would say is that there probably isn't going to be a big demand for Hoyer. So if you are willing to roll the dice without Fitzpatrick, why not acquire the guy for cheap? You would come into training camp with Hoyer/Geno/Petty/Rookie and whatever shakes out with the veterans (Geno/Hoyer) shakes out.... kinda like Buffalo signing Matt Cassel last year but cutting him at the end of training camp because he didn't win the job. If Geno Smith proves to be better then you axe Hoyer before the final cuts, or vice versa.

Just one problem with that.....Ge-No lacks the intelligence to run the team.. He had his shot, he's not a player in the mold that Mac/TB want..

There's no in between with you guys. Either the OC sucks balls or he's the best there is.

    Gailey is a decent OC.

I could live with this but there is one fly in the ointment. Geno is dirt cheap.

If we draft a QB and Hoyer beats out Geno then we either carry 4 QBs or we cut Geno. I'd rather save the 4-5 M we'd pay Hoyer and give Geno the shot.

I just think it's a bit more likely (unlikely as it is) that Geno turns into a keeper then Hoyer does.

No, it's not. The guy is trash. Fitz is far better than this clown. Geno is better than this clown.

Why anyone thinks this guy is any good is beyond me. Have you seen him play?

We have a QB on the roster who had somewhat high expectations when he was drafted. Has the physical tools. Has more starting experience than most young QBs. Made a lot of (stupid, really stupid) mistakes (that he hopefully learned from). Had another year under his belt to learn the current system. Held a clipboard for a relatively successful vet QB. Is on a rookie deal, and contract year.

Yeah, I hate Geno, but if there is ever a time to give the guy a shot... its now.

What are you talkin' about? The guy is a wizened old, bald. southern genius. His head is so big because its full of offensive knowledge and advanced schemes. He could make any crappy QB look great. I'm thinking of walking on the team myself and performing at a pro bowl level under him!!!!

he's nothing like Morningweg, Schottenheimer, Sparano, Hackett, etc. who are the worst individuals ever to hold a clipboard in the history of the game

On January 18, 2016, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they had hired Schottenheimer as their quarterbacks coach.

Mornhingweg has a long history of success with QBs. I wouldn't hold GeNO's issues over his head.
