Everyone said Robinson was raw i.e. Didn't look like a pro bowler and Clowney is in the wrong D to look like anything but a disappointment.
jaylon smith is a difference maker, a guy that has the potential to be a guy who teams have to scheme for. his awareness, quickness and ability are second to none and if he had actually been used to rush the passer last year he would have had a number of sacks. instead his idiot coordinator who happens to look like a mass murderer decided he needed him dropping back in coverage all year. if healthy he will be great. nerve damage is one of those scary things though. I really really really am hoping he comes back full strength. id take him in the 3rd for sure. I think he will be gone by then though. im willing to bet one of the better teams that are drafting at the low end of the 1st take a flyer on him. and I betcha it pays off in spades.
People who are saying they'd draft him anywhere after round 2 clearly do not know what the draft is all about
The draft is about building a solid team for the future. You take chances not players. If the players have red flags their draft stock drops. Smith has a huge red flag. So obviously you don't understand the draft. Smith is not a 1st rounder, not an early 2nd rounder maybe lucky to be a 3rd rounder. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
If we had an abundance of picks like in 2014 I would roll the dice and take him in the 2nd round but this year we are a bit skinny with picks and have some big holes. To be honest we have put ourself in a position where our top 3 picks need to be starters within 2 years.
As you know, no player is a guarantee. If Smith makes a full recovery, he will be a starter in year 2 and quite possibly a difference maker. I can't really get a read on your post. We have big holes including lb. Smith was the top lb in the country. So you're saying we should take him?
I'm saying if maybe we trade Mo and get a bunch more picks it's worth a gamble on a player that prob won't play this year. If not I can't see us using a 2nd Rd pick on a player that won't play this year... Too many holes...
I would pass on him, I'm going to have 2 drafts in my resume as a GM before this guy possibly hits the field. I'm probably going to have that position filled via FA or via the draft before this guy can play, no thanks.
the draft clearly isn't about drafting for next year. it is about drafting for the longevity of the franchise and to acquire the best talent possible. jaylon smith is maybe the best talent in this draft class and anyone who says they wouldn't take him with our 2nd round pick is clearly misinformed
It all depends upon what the medical experts believe. He may be the best talent in the class, but if he will have permanent nerve damage and never able to play again or is able to play but never approach his old level of play, then what good will that do the Jets? Being the most talented player in the draft and a buck seventy-five (or whatever it costs these days) will get you on the NY Subway, but won't guarantee you a seat. If the Jets think he will heal and be able to return to a high level of play, then yes, by all means, they should take him in the 2nd if he's there. He's too much of a risk in the 1st round however. He's one of those picks that could make or break a young GM's career. Miss and you look stupid, and may get fired. Hit, and you look like a genius.
The report I saw from the medical recheck didn't offer anything new. There's still nerve damage and although Doctors say it will eventually heal they have no idea how long it will take. The part I found disturbing is that Smith had to learn how to walk differently after the operation to compensate for the nerve damage. That doesn't sound very promising.
im not going to claim to know very much about nerve damage or acls but my understanding is that this occurs not from the injury but from the surgery? that is a huge kick in the balls. i know the kid had an insurance policy and all and is a very smart guy who will be fine in life but my god thats a huge pill to swallow. top talent as a jr goes for what is these days a typical surgery and comes away fucked up. and all because he wouldnt stay down and dude gave him a shove from behind.
you are assuming his condition is only some short term setback, with no long term ramifications. unless you have access to his medical examinations, or the team doctors, you are talking out your ass. there is a possibility he goes round 1, and a possibility he goes undrafted. it all depends on the medical. no one is disputing his talent.
I had to go find it: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...recheck-lb-jaylon-smith-expected-to-miss-2016 The part of him changing how he walks is in the video, not the text.
I think it's more talking about him walking with a limp or something as it says that the injury has temporarily changed the way he walks.
